No – I’m not referring to last night’s game! I talking about Brad Ausmus. Due to back surgery for a bad disc, it is my opinion that in all probability, Brad Ausmus has played his last game. At 41, why would he want to come back for a short season? I can’t say that the [...]

The game is just getting ready to start, but a couple of updates are in order: James McDonald was option and re-assigned to minor league camp (what’s wring with a 20+ ERA – As Ken pointed out, McDonald could be Oakland’s Ace. $10 mil bucks for Sheets? Please! Brad Ausmus had an epidural injection today (forget [...]

We learned today, from Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times and Ken Gurnick of MLB.com that the Dodgers signed Ronnie Belliard to what appears to be an $825k one year deal. The deal is said to also have about $250k in incentives, which pushes the deal over the million dollar mark. We also learned that [...]

I have read extensive analysis of which match-ups are the best for the Dodgers in the NLDS, which is a lot like all the baseball pre-season predictions. I read all those magazines (and save them, which shows how stupid I am) and then go back and see how the prognosticators fared. A monkey throwing darts [...]

It’s a rare and shameful occurrence when the Jolly Roger is hoisted at PNC Park, especially when it is hoisted on the NL West Division Leading Dodgers. That should be the last we see the skull and crossbones all weekend. Let’s make sure of it! I think last night was just a simple case of the young [...]

Sabermetricians seem to be all the rage in baseball. There’s a stat for practically anything and more are being invented by the minute (maybe second). It’s no longer ERA, BA, SLG %, OB%, it’s WHIP, OPS, BAbip, OWn%, XBT%, BABIP and on and on it goes. There are literally HUNDREDS of more statistics that sabermetric [...]

In 1988 we had Dave Anderson, Mike Davis, Pedero Guerrero, Rick Dempsey, Tracy Wooden, Danny Heap and the head stuntman, Mickey Hatcher. This year it’s Juan Pierre, Juan Castro, Xavier Paul, Doug Mientkiewicz, Mark Loretta and Brad Ausmus. They currently go by the name “Bomb Squad,” but I think that “The Stuntmen” are back. Bomb Squad may be more 2009, but The Stuntmen are timeless.
