DODGERS HIRE JON WEISMAN AS DIRECTOR, DIGITAL AND PRINT CONTENT

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced the hiring of veteran Los Angeles writer and editor Jon Weisman as Director, Digital and Print Content.

In the newly created role, Weisman will be responsible for creating and producing original digital content for the club’s website, as well as overseeing all of the Dodgers’ publications, including Dodgers Magazine, and integrating them online.

In 2002, Weisman founded the independent website “Dodger Thoughts,” which emerged as a leading voice covering the Dodgers. For his efforts on the site, Los Angeles Magazine named him one of the five most influential people in sports in 2006. “Dodger Thoughts” was subsequently hosted by both the Los Angeles Times and ESPNLA.com in the past decade.

Weisman is also an accomplished author and, in 2009, he published the book “100 Things Dodgers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die,” a comprehensive take on the franchise’s history and culture.

Weisman began his sportswriting career in 1986 and has written news, features, opinion and analysis for such media outlets as the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Daily News, Pasadena Star-News, ESPN.com, SI.com, NBC Sports, Baseball Prospectus, The Hardball Times and Sports on Earth.

Most recently, Weisman spent seven years at Variety, where he was senior editor focused on film and television, including the intersection of sports and entertainment. He has also had more than a dozen live-action and animation television scripts produced.

Weisman is a native of Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife and three children.

I decided to post this as my last Dodger-related post because I am very happy for Jon – It couldn’t have happened to a better guy.  Congratulations, Jon!

Heard it all before… See you next week!

I believe Mark is being square in that he intends on making his exit. At least for the most part. He’s not obligated to share all his reasons and whatever his reasons are are good ones. So thanks Mark, this site has really been a cool place to meet with you and all the people who I feel are my friends. I’m glad you’re keeping it open for us to comment as I’m not ready for the good-bye’s yet. Dodgers baseball is much more fun with a site that has the quality you’ve created here. So when its sold, I hope its to a party who see’s this place for what it has going. And if you put it in such hands, please join in to give us your Hoe-dee-doe’s from time to time. Again, Thanks!

Thanks for opening the comments so you can receive your proper due.
Several times daily I would drop by to see what the boys were opining and can truthfully say that Badger et.al. feel like family and I am going to feel a deep void in my life at a time the winter time blues are already pulling at me.
First you and now Tony, double whammy.
    Late

I’ve already sent Mark a personal email expressing my feelings toward him. We go back a long way and though over the years we have had many disagreements, and some spirited debates, we remain friends.

I too will miss the kinship found here. This place has always been a different, more family like discussion board. I have tried many but the format and the friendship here has, for me, been like no other.

Thanks for your work here Mark. And thanks to all of you who shared your love of Dodger baseball.

  5. Kevin says:

    Good riddance.

  6. Brooklyn Dodger says:

I too sent Mark an email. And like Badger, I’ve come back to this site over and over because of the friendly and very accessible format. Quite frankly, if this site were to close down permanently, I’d probably just stop posting, since there aren’t any others that I’ve come across that draw me like this one.

For the time being I hope that this site stays open to allow for comments, if only on this thread, no matter how long it grows. And if there is ultimately new ownership of the site, I would hope that they would recognize and maintain the friendly, familial nature of this place.

And thanks again Mark, and to all my Dodger brothers with whom I’ve had the privilege of sharing this site. Hopefully this is not a goodbye, but a new beginning.

And Mark, if and when this site is sold, please be sure to work things out so that we continue to see U.S. Water Systems ads. Then it will truly feel like home. In your words Mark, “Peace to all”.

I too – even as a relative newcomer here (not one of the elite!) – dropped Mark a line today.
Never posted anywhere before so a great shame for me. The other sites seem puerile & immature in comparison (see Kev above ).
Just a thought – if Mark can’t sell – how about you taking it on Badger? Think we’d all like that on here, if you could find the time?

Good one dp. I do still in my heart feel that way about the game. But at this level I question the love and the devotion. It is an enormous business with far too much emphasis on the money for my liking. Still, I see that Dodger uniform and I go back to ’59-’66, when every summer it was all about the Dodgers. My first Little League team in ’60 was the Giants and I nearly cried. I didn’t want to put that uniform on. I made the All Star team that year in a Giants uniform. I remain damaged from that experience.

Yeah, they will come. But I don’t think I’m going next year. We’ll see.

  9. Badger says:

As busy as I am in here W, it may seem like I’m a logical choice, but I’m not. I’ve got some personal issues going on that will take my focus away. This is an escape for me. Hopefully Mark will reconsider and just have a new “Open Forum” every few days. This is a place to keep US Water Systems name out there. He could also sell ad space here if he chose to. That would be fine with me. We see it everywhere else.

In reading a Rumors today I can’t help but wonder what Uribe was offered. It says the Dodgers are ready to move on. Really? To who? How long will both parties wait?

  10. Brooklyn Dodger says:

Watford, as far as I’m concerned, you’re elite. As for the “puerile & immature” types, they’re good for a good laugh. Ignore them, smile, and take solace in the knowledge that there is nothing you share with them.

  11. Bill Russell says:

Well Mark, you and I will remain friends outside of this site and when you are in the L A area look me up once in awhile to have a beer and talk about them Pacers. Thanks for everything and I’ll miss our meetings at Camelback. Peace
