Quit Making Excuses

I am getting weary of hearing that the Dodger team is riddled with injuries and if they had all of their regulars things would be different.  Let me remind you of a few things:

  • The Yankees have Michael Pineda (certainly the equal of Chad Billingsley), Joba Chamberlin, starting catcher Francisco Cervelli, starting shortstop Derek Jeter, starting 3B Alex Rodriguez, backup 3B Kevin Youkilis, starting 1B Mark Teixeira and starting outfielder Curtis Granderson on the Disabled List.  Many of them have been out all year and the Yanks have had to resort to players like Vernon Wells, Jayson Nix, Lyle Overbay and Ben Francisco.  THEY ARE CURRENTLY IN FIRST PLACE!  They have just played like junkyard dogs and have figured out how to win games while the Dodgers have figured out how to lose games.
  • The RedSox who swindled the Dodgers into taking a quarter million dollars of aging vets with declining skills are nipping at the Yanks heels in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.
  • The Phillies, Dodgers, Blue Jays and Angels were all big players in taking on big contracts, and the theme that runs true with all these teams is that they have been colossal failures.
  • The Dodgers were the best team in baseball this time last year, even with injuries.  Then came the trades for the high-priced, aging vets with declining skills and they flopped.  It’s happening again.
  • Face the facts:  Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez will be lucky to hit 25 home runs this year (COMBINED).
  • This team is a classic train wreck and you need to quit making excuses.
  • At this point, I almost pine for Frank McCourt.

P.S.  Scott Van Slyke will get his shot starting now.  Here we go!

Right on Timmons, injuries happen and we have had a lot of them, but do we fold up like a tent? Looks like it, if that’s the thinking in here. There has been something lacking with this team and it was painfully obvious to me even during ST. Something is lacking, it’s not high priced contracts, it’s not lack of talent (Kemp, Ethier, Crawford, Kershaw, Gonzo, Mark Ellis, to name a handful). We do have some holes but the holes seem to have become Grand Canyon in magnitude since so many others have not been producing. So what is the common denominator, give you one guess. Here’s a hint, there is one constant that has a connection to each and every player on the team.

AR15′s rule, especially the 5.56 nato platform. If you don’t have one, get one. If you got one, get another.

    OK. .

  3. Bobby says:

Mark said one correct thing up there (among others, but this point stood out): the Yanks play like junkyard dogs. Why? Because their manager is one. He forces them to play like it.

Our manager does not manage that way. Replace Donnie Softball with Garardi, and we are much closer than 6 games out, injuries or not!

Now, i’s too bad we switched back to baseball on this thread, because I was enjoying hearing different gun viewpoints at the end of the last thread!!

Now as Anaheim and LA continue to suck, hopefully Anaheim and LA in hockey can both win tonight and start their freeway series next week! Go Kings Go!!

Go out of town on a business trip and the dodgers still can’t win. Now 2.5 behind the mighty O’Malley Padres. Still in Last place. Still a fact. More emotional manipulative responses, only going to phase II of manipulation techniques.

Finally making some long awaited moves but that too is probably just a panic move too.

A good post combining facts and opinions regarding the past and the present, yet only 1 statement about the future, which I disagree with, and of course I will never pine about McJerk.

  5. Badger says:

Blaming the manager is an excuse. Quit it. Boss’s orders.

Excuses are like assault weapons. Apparently everybody needs more than one.

I have an answer for our excessive payroll. Sequestration. Just don’t pay the contract. Easy squeezy.

True story , 8th grade basketball team in kentucky at a smaller town packed gym , my coach was after me for not following my shot , he called time after i didnt follow my shot , as i was about to sit down in a fold up chair all i remember was going ass over tea kettle. So i gathered myself nothing was said never was any thing to say, i remember that moment like yesterday he is and always will be a smart coach , he new he could do it with me i was the best rebounder and shot follower the rest of my basketball days . Yes a little bobby night moment is ok trustme , takes a special situation to get thru to a guy some times , problem is theres to manny to get thru too ! theyve got to dig !

  7. Dave says:

gugg and crew made the bed its dirty now and there gonna haft to pay to have it cleaned welcome to the big leagues

  8. Badger says:

Crawford, Punto, Gonzalez. All those guys Mark keeps throwing under the bus just keep on contributing.

So far, this isn’t about the guys we got from Boston. Who knows, maybe it eventually will be, but all that bitching about the Boston connection sounds cursory when you look at the numbers.

Place the bitching where it belongs. It’s Hanley Ramirez, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and the pitching. The Dodgers are currently 21st in MLB in pitching. That isn’t how it’s supposed to be. Kemp and Ethier are both way off the numbers for which they are being paid. And Hanley is in a hot tub.

Greinke has been gone, the pen has looked junior varsity, the bench is out on the field and 3 of middle of the order guys are very much absent. Get everybody back where they belong and who knows?

And that ain’t making excuses. That’s just the facts as I sees them.

“So that which you bought to protect your life became that which ultimately destroyed your life.” Keith Morrison. Daeline show on how guns in the wrong hands can ruin multiple families. Just sayin……

  9. Badger says:

oh, and then we have Magill in there for Greinke….. how’s that working out?

  10. Roger Dodger says:

What the Dodgers have not done much of this entire seasons, now almost a month and a half along ——- is put up runs, not just for an inning, but through out the game.

I notice that some teams were playing in April, like it was September. Many Dodger games, Dodgers played like it was still Spring Training.

    Nice post Mark.

  11. Brooklyn Dodger says:

I was just in the midst of a post when my hand inadvertently hit a key that wiped it out. Just as well. Badger pretty much said it for me. I too was making the point that it wasn’t the Boston guys. It’s Kemp, it’s Ethier, and it’s having Magill in place of Greinke, and so on. By the way, Magill has solid stuff, but needs work on his command. He’s just not ready.

Pining for McJerk is just plain ridiculous. In the end, it’s still a long season (not popular with some people around here), and things will turn around if Kemp and Ethier start to hit, and Hanley gets back and hits as well. If they don’t, well that’s another story. We’ll just have to wait and see.

And because McJerk is not running things, moves will be made. Too early to label this a train wreck.

  12. Bobby says:

Meanwhile, Greinke update for you kids:

Dodgers starter Zack Greinke allowed eight runs (five earned) on six hits in 4 1/3 innings while making his first rehab start for Rancho Cucamonga after breaking his left collarbone a month ago.

Greinke, originally expected to be out for two months, made 80 pitches, fielded a comebacker and a bunt and didn’t appear to be in any discomfort from the collarbone, although he did make several deep bends at the waist while on the mound. Lake Elsinore’s (Padres) Robert Kral had three extra-base hits against Greike — a homer and two doubles. The Quakes made three errors behind him. Greinke had four strikeouts without a walk.

  13. Rob says:

This is just getting rediculous with our hitting and our pen. The only guys performing are the guys from the Boston trade.

  14. Bball says:

I can’t watch the game tonight due to the prime ticket change. Really the marlins. You sorry fucks losing to the marlins. Wow. How about bowa as the next dodger manager. Matt kemp sucks big fat balls. How can he decline this fast. If dodgers management pulled a Jeffery loria I wouldn’t blame them one bit.

  15. Jason says:

Agree bball. The Marlins are a bigger mess than LA and they can’t even beat them.
    This.
    Is.
    A.
    Joke.

  16. emersonlake says:

    RIP LAD.

  17. Rob says:

We lost to a AAA team, how embarrassing. This shit is super depressing, I liked it better when we had no expectations.

  18. jerry says:

every one kept saying when matt kemp and andrea start to hit…what happen if they dont .mybe there on the down swing.

  19. Watford Dodger says:

Even if The Giants & DiamondBacks only play .500 ball until the end of the season they will take some catching now . I was in the Badger camp of optimism but beginning to lose the faith…

  20. emerson-Lake says:

Jerry–I always thought it was “Andre”–did he change it to “Andrea?” Is that where his power went?

  21. jerry says:

maybe that is the problem..emerson ..you hit it on the head
