Rant & Rave Sunday

  • This is not Dodger baseball.  No clutch hitting, bad pitching, buying players, no run game -with all the injuries piling up you know that the Big Dodger in the Sky has turned his back on these chumps.  We have to return to the Dodger way of playing baseball.  Give the money back!
  • Matt Magill may be a keeper.
  • Carl Crawfords’  batting average is dropping faster than a taco down Juan Uribe’s throat.  What’s up with that?  He looks to be swinging for the fences again.
  • Same league. Two shortstops.   One is the #1 prospect in all of baseball – Jurickson Profar – .209 BA .  The other is Dee Gordon – .337.
  • Steve Ames with his second save last night.
  • Scott Van Slyke still OPS’ing 1.398.  Huh?  What?
  • Ex-Dodger Leon Landry hitting .195 at AA.
  • Chris Reed 7 IP, 4 Hits, 3 ER last night.  He’s becoming a starter…
  • Corey Seager at Low -A – .271/3 HR/10 RBI.   .834 OPS.   After a slow start he’s on a tear.  He’s on a fast track.  He could see AA this year!
  • James Baldwin is starting to figure it out.  .826 OPS – he could be awesome if he can hit the ball.
  • Hanley Ramirez was 1-3 with 2 RBI last night while playing SS.  Look for him in LA on Tuesday.
  • If they weren’t on your team, would you trade ANYTHING for the following players (I’m just sayin’…):
    • Cruz
    • Guerrier
    • Beckett
    • Uribe
    • Sellers
    • Lilly
  • What are the Dodgers going to do with Andre Ethier?  He’s nearly untradable…

And when HanRam returns (and hopefully M Ellis soon) Ethier will prove his worth. Everybody is raving about Magill’s performance but it was really little more than alright-But it showed very promising signs that his next time up should be really-really good. I’m certain Dodgers are viewing his 4 seam fastball and are designing the plan of when it should be best utilized. I’m gonna guess he’ll be with us further than 1st planned. Still waiting on how Ned is gonna deal with 3B.

    • Watford Dodger says:

Interesting for me to see how Lohse goes tonight having advocated signing
him on a number of occasions while he was still available and his asking price
      had come down.
I don’t want to sound wise after the event but I did say that Lohse would be a great
addition as at no point was I confident in Bill’s elbow, Lilly’s shoulder, Beckett’s
ability to win games and surely he would be a big improvement over Cappy/
Big Show which is surely what we needed.
This was a predictable disaster waiting to happen I’m afraid.
Wait till Kershaw starts flexing his hip.
And what about the bottom our order? There is zero power there or speed.
Ryu or Kershaw could bat ahead of some of these guys.
Get Puig & Castellanos up quick.
It isn’t as long a season as u think. Everyone thinks the tide will turn. Why?
We can’t get the job done – full stop.
Poor old Mat Magill – any other team would have won for him last night.
      NO BALLS

      • Dodger66 says:

I had a problem with taking Matt out last night. Matt was pitching free and easy. I know he had just went over the 100 pitch mark, and was about to face a left hander who had reached on him twice, but come on and lets use your feel for the game sometimes Don! Who knows for sure what would of been, but we all saw what did happen!

        • Jae says:

Of course you can second guess and never be wrong. If they had left him in and he gave up more runs you would have blasted Donnie as well.

You second guessers are never wrong. Lay off that stuff. It is silly!

          • Dodger66 says:

Jae, as I said above who knows for sure what happens if you leave Matt in to finish the 7th. My point was that Matt had just sent the first two batters he had faced in the 7th down with ease, no stress why not give him a chance to make the third out.

  2. KEN says:

In order to have dodger players playing dodger baseball you must have a manager that pushes the players in the correct manner and benches those that do not play the dodger way, Oops that would mean firing Donnie T-Ball or benching the entire team and forfeiting 100 games.

Keep Magill and put Cappy in the pen until Magill blows up.

Carl Crawfish is swinging for the fences and is hitting more Willie Davis fly balls then line drives.

Ethier still needs to learn how to switch hit. By that I mean 2 differrent approaches depending upon whether he is facing a RHP or LHP. Now he can hit LHP and not RHP. Is baseball really 80% mental?

Bud Harrelson’s lifetime BA = .236. Sellers is ok for now.

Rameriz should wait until 5/15 to start rehab. No diving for ground balls. Oh right, he only dives for ground balls in the WBC.

Lilly – $3 mil per year
    Sellers – $600,000
    Uribe – $1,000,000
    Beckett – $5,000,000
    Guerrier – $750,000
    Cruz – League minimum

Only because I temorarily have my Union Hat on. :)

    No spell check today?

  3. KEN says:

    Proposed Trade

    Miami – Palanco (37) (3B – $2.75)

LAD – Uribe (3B – $6 mil), Capuano (SP $7 mil), Lee (Prospect), $10.25 mil

Miami’s #9 prospect, Jack Cox 3B (23) is at AA Level.

  4. Mark_Timmons says:

    Put down the crack pipe…

    ;)

  5. HemmorhoidRage says:

Second Guessing also known as Billy Idol Dancing with Myself shuffle. You’re right Jae those guys are never wrong, never have been and never will be. Yes, it is silly!

    • Dave says:

thats right rhoid your not a member of the second guess club! Just the armchair umpire club ! remember up and in at the chin till you show some lack of hypocrisy at the armchair , cause your a natural in that department !

  6. Roger Dodger says:

You know, when a team picks up an older player –

That players, being Ramon Hernandez, catcher — is supposed to get a new life. Supposed to play like they were 5 years younger. Their career has been put on life support for another season . . .

So, in this case, Hernandez is supposed to give the Dodgers a lift when he player.

So far: 15 AB and 1 hit; was a double. He is hitting .067.

He is supposed to play like he was 32 when he was at Baltimore. With 507 plate appearances, hitting .257 with 15 HRs and 65 RBIs.

Boy, if he could only hit .257 this season . . .

  7. Roger Dodger says:

Now Punto is the man. Hitting .393. 35 year old journeyman.

Hitting like he is 28, when he hit .290 with the Twins in 524 plate appearances.

What a gem got in that trade with the Red Sox.

  8. Badger says:

It’s fine with me if you have an opinion. I don’t consider it silly at all. That is what this place is for. Just don’t suck as Mark likes to say.

Paul Goldschnmidt is my new favorite hitter. He only swings at strikes. You make a mistake he can hit it off the top of the foul pole. (I saw it two days ago). He gets two strikes on him he shortens up and goes the other way with outside strikes. He is well schooled.

  9. Rob says:

I know uribe and sellers are not lighting it up but Hernandez batting 6th is plain stupid.

  10. Roger Dodger says:

Crawford is a one man band.

He plays all the tunes. Sure wish he could teach the rest of the Dodgers on the roster, just how to hit the right notes.

  11. Bobby says:

Meanwhile, some exciting news from Tennessee:

    Kevin Baxter ‏@kbaxter11 37m
Dodger prospect Yasiel Puig arrrested in TN for speeding, reckless driving. GM Colletti: “We’ll be handling discipline internally.” #Dodgers

  12. Roger Dodger says:

I knew it was too good to be true.

Do I see shades of Candy??

Rich young man, with media all around, wanting to make a name for himself.

Hey, let’s wait . . . and see what happens. After all, consider what state this happen in. Consider attitudes there. Probably the cop is a Cardinal fan.

  13. Badger says:

Sure hope he hadn’t been drinking. Another example of bad attitude or bad judgment. Thought he had a life coach in his pocket.

  14. Roger Dodger says:

OKAY. We are coming to truth time. The coming to Jesus time.

How long does Donnie go with Clayton? Pitched 6 innings, 3 hits, 10 Ks. 94 pitches.

Will the pen be called upon? If so, then hold your breath.

  15. Badger says:

Pitch count. Not more than 108.

  16. Badger says:

    Innings. Not more than 8.

  17. Quasimodo says:

well how bout that? Today’s pitching was surely something rave about!

  18. Rob says:

    KKKKKKKKKKKKershaw!!!

  19. KEN says:

Great News – Crawford had 2 HRs and the LAD won, now playing .500.

Bad News – Crawford hit 2 HRs and will try to hit even more thus reducing his BA and PBP even more.

“Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he was encouraged by Magill’s debut. The club lacks a true long reliever in the bullpen and is considering Magill for that role.”

“We’ve actually had a few outings this year where we’re getting stuck with not the right combination of guys,” Mattingly said before Sunday’s game against Milwaukee. “So we’re going to have some discussions on where we go with that and what we do with it. It’s still something we’re talking about.”

FINALLY – “Praise The Lord and Pass the Soup” (Johnny Cash) :)

  20. Badger says:

    Good news. Dodgers won.

Bad news. 0 for 0 WRISP.

Not one runner in scoring position all day? And we win?

Kershaw and Crawford and nothing else.

  21. Bobby says:

Kershaw and Crawford and pray for rain?

AZ just beat Col; now Col comes to LA. We HAVE to win this series.

HanRam is 2-3 so far today. He should be back tomorrow or Tuesday.

Lakers likely done today, but Kings to start their run in a few days!

  22. Badger says:

Tough to watch this banged up Lakers team. And that sourpuss Popovich continues his Hack Howard strategy no matter what. Gotta be tough to play that game when you are fouled two or three times on every single possession. Oh well. Wait til next year. I am sure the Lakers will get if figured out. I wonder if that process begins with dumping D’Antoni? Wrong man for that job.

midgets with their 5th loss in a row, so, that’s a good thing.

  23. Brooklyn Dodger says:

It would be nice to win the series against Colorado, but “HAVE to win” is a bit strong. Same old story. It’s just April. And yes, I know the games count, and yes it’s an important series. But then again, every series against a division rival is an important series. So I guess we “HAVE to win” the upcoming series with the Giants. And by the way, we are now tied in the loss column with the hated midgets.

Moving Magill to the pen, if it comes to pass, should help. And Badger’s suggestion that the Dodgers should add a pitcher, which if memory serves, came earlier in this thread, definitely has merit. If this team scores we don’t need the extra arm in the pen, but we do if runs are in short supply. So the other solution would be for the offense to begin hitting up to their potential. Getting rid of Cruz, Sellers and/or Uribe (or all of them) would help in that regard. And getting consistent production (including power) out of Kemp and Ethier would also be helpful. Like to see more power out of Gonzalez as well.

  24. the truth hurts says:

All we have to do is tread water, which we are doing.

Better things are yet to come.

    That is the truth.

  25. Brooklyn Dodger says:

    And this isn’t good news.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130428&content_id=46090622&vkey=news_la&c_id=la

Hope it’s just a kid being stupid, and not a manifestation of a more serious character deficiency.

  26. Quasimodo says:

For Dodgers to on top of division at the end the next 6 games we’d have to hope Giants win 2 games against D-Backs and Dodgers to sweep Rockies and also sweep Giants. Wow, pretty tall order. And with all that happening we could still end in 2nd. pending how Rockies play after Dodger sweep them…….At least I think I’m reading it correctly as that. Geez!

  27. Quasimodo says:

Oh! And after Giants we play D-Backs

  28. Quasimodo says:

So am I worried we’ll bring HanRam too soon? I’m more worried we won’t bring him back soon enough.

  29. Watford Dodger says:

Lohse was excellent. Should have signed him while we could.

    • Badger says:

We didn’t need him then. And signing him would cost a draft pick.

Quas, even though your math makes sense, I cannot hope for the gints to win anything over anybody. It’s small of me I know, but I hope they lose another 5 in a row, win one by accident, then lose 10 in a row, have an off day, then go on to lose another 10.

      oooooohhhhh I hates the midgets.

And, living in Arizona, I actually have come to enjoy watching this Dbacks team. If the Dodgers can’t pull it off, I have no problem with the Dbacks winning it. They play a fun brand of baseball. Unlike the Dodgers, it’s actually watchable.

  30. HawkeyeDodger says:

Profar also has at least 5 errors too. I witnessed Seager in person on Saturday night. Extremely quick hands. The sooner they move him to 3rd base the better. Anyone notice what Withrow is doing this year?
