LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today placed left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the bereavement list and reinstated shortstop Hanley Ramirez from the 15-day disabled list. Ramirez played a combined 12.0 innings at shortstop, while going 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI at the plate in two rehab games this weekend for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. The 29-year-old was injured during the championship game of the World Baseball Classic after going 5-for-22 with two homers and three RBI in eight tournament games for the Dominican Republic and underwent surgery on March 22 to repair the ligament in his right thumb. Prior to the WBC, Ramirez appeared in six Spring Training games, going 5-for-15 with four RBI.

By rule, Kershaw must remain on the bereavement list for a minimum of three games, but no longer than a maximum of seven games.

  1. Brooklyn Dodger says:

So does that mean that Cruz or whoever gets a reprieve until Kershaw comes off the bereavement list?

  2. Bobby says:

Damn, God be with Kershaw’s family

    Welcome back HanRam!

  3. Brooklyn Dodger says:

It’s early, and I don’t get too excited by early season stats, but I thought I would mention that Carlos Santana his hitting .388/.453/.687 with a 1.140 OPS. Was alerted to this by MSTI.

  4. Roger Dodger says:

So Lilly is throwing batting practice for the Rockies.

    Like they really need it.

Question: is this game over, and there are no outs in the top of the 1st inning???

  5. KEN says:

NED would rather have an injured player on the bench who can bobble his head as he cheers for Lilly losing to the Rockies.

  6. Rob says:

This game should be the last game for Wall in the majors this year. If he is our long reliever we are in trouble.

  7. KEN says:

You think maybe Javy Guerra might be pissed off that Wall is in the Show and he is not? Javy stretched out to 5 innings last start.

  8. Rob says:

Is Jaime wright still out there?

  9. Bobby says:

    Bring back Jeff Weaver

  10. Roger Dodger says:

Okay, time to pile on . . . an open letter to:

Ned — this team is going no where. The roster does not work.

Hanley created a problem with his injury, but SS & 3B have been terrible and you just sit back and, what: hope, pray, wait, hope some more.

The pitching has been okay and terrible. Bad luck with starters. And the pen has some real holes in it.

But YOU have not made the changes to breathe air or make the changes necessary.

With all of the money and fan support — it could not have gone worse.

Yet, in 7 or 10 days, with a winning streak this team could be back on top or close to it. On the other hand, it could be in last place with S.D. moving ahead.

Fans are tired of waiting . . . 25 years is long enough . . . or are you building for the future and just see this season as a building one?

    So, what is next Ned??

  11. the truth hurts says:

I am going to all 3 games in Atlanta may 17-19 with about 5 die hard braves fans.

things better turn around by then.

that gives you 3 weeks boys….

  12. Quasimodo says:

So where does Walls ERA stand? Better than it’ll be in the next inning.

  13. Bball says:

Poor kid. Far from being ready. His confidence is shot. No promotion tonight so maybe 35,000. Just a bad all around crappy day.

  14. Bball says:

Well it’s time to put the scrubs in. Oh wait they already are

  15. Brooklyn Dodger says:

The really big question is whether or not we are seeing the real Lilly tonight. I suspect that we might. Maybe instead of being the long reliever, Matt Magill deserves a shot at Lilly’s spot in the rotation. And perhaps Chris Withrow has earned a chance to replace Wall. And if Capuano turns out to be effective, remove a hitter (i.e., non-hitter) like Cruz, Sellers, or Uribe. Maybe the Dodgers do need an extra arm in he pen more than they need any of the above on their bench.

Javy Guerra?????? Maybe. His stats don’t look all that great at ALBQ, but then again, what pitcher does have good stats in the PCL?

Long reliever??????? I suspect the larger problem is filling out the rotation, removing a weak spot in the pen (Wall), adding a 13th pitcher, and jump starting the offense. Maybe tonight’s game is a step in the right direction. Wall could be replaced after tonight, and maybe Lilly is a step closer to being removed as well. And as I’ve pointed out recently, I’m not too thrilled with Guerrier.

Maybe a trade is in the works, and maybe not.

  16. Badger says:

Moves are about to be made.

  17. Dave says:

    yes the truth hurts !

  18. Quasimodo says:

I guess Schumaker should of started on the mound tonight.

  19. Brooklyn Dodger says:

I admit, I turned the game off early. Had some work to do, and figured I was better off doing it than watching tonight’s debacle. But still, it’s only one game, and maybe the Dodgers found out a couple of things. So like Badger says, “Yoiks. Moves are about to be made.”

Of course, because I turned it off early I missed Schumaker on the mound. How did he look? Can he fill a bullpen role?

Well, the good news is that after his speeding incident the other day, Yasiel Puig was back in the lineup today, and hit one out.

  20. KEN says:

It could be worse for the bullpen. Oakland’s starter went 4 1/3 tonight(yesterday) and they are in the 18th inning. :)

  21. KEN says:

    Angels into the 19th.

    Lilly to the DL?

  22. Jason says:

The Dodgers need to hit the panic button ASAP. Wait…they probably can’t hit that either.

  23. Bobbie17 says:

Beckett is still the key piece of this staff. He can get the rotation to the back end and give the relief pitchers relief. But he is bad. I can’t figure it out except to say he is probably washed up as an effective starting pitcher in the majors. I expected him to be better, but that is the same old song we have been singing for years. It is time to give a real shot to some of the younger guys. It’s early enough in the season to take some chances. It has to happen some time, and it might as well be now.
