LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today placed IF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr. on the 15-day disabled list with left hip inflammation (retroactive to August 12) and recalled IF/OF Elian Herrera from Triple-A Albuquerque. Hairston was hitting .273 (65-for-238) with four home runs and 26 RBI and has made starts at second base (26), third base (23) and left field (12).
Since being optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on July 13, Herrera was hitting .299 (32-for-107) with eight doubles, three triples, one home run and 19 RBI in 24 games and owns a .330 (75-for-227) overall average in 52 games for the Isotopes this season. The 27-year-old IF/OF is hitting .243 (41-for-169) in 51 games for Los Angeles, making starts at third base (14), second base (nine), center field (nine), left field (seven) and right field (one).

Not a great loss since Jerry is playing out of position at 3d as witnessed by 2 front ende of DPs being blown this weekend. The way Cruz drives in runs he should be starting. I suppose Kennedy should get an occassional but hope Donnie boy doesn’t pencil him in there.
Worst group of 3b I’ve ever seen on the dodgers, and I’ve been a fan since Guerrero looked like a bland man playing 3b (at least he hit)
Since then, I thought Jeff Hamilton, German Rivera, Mike Blowers, etc were all horrible. These guys make Rivera look like Scott Rolen.
It’s a big loss Michael. There aren’t many utility men (if any) better than Jerry.
No disrespect to Jerry but he isn’t going to play SS and it’s highly unlikely he’ll see time in the OF with the current makeup of the roster. That leaves the possibilties down to 2nd or 3rd and he is hitting .129 in his last 10 games, nine of them starts. That being said, I’d druther him on the bench than Juan.
BA against RHP
Victorino .241
M. Ellis .207
Kemp .313
Ethier .325
Rameriz .254
Loney .256
Kennedy .256
AJ Ellis .294
BA against RHP so far tonight:
Victorino and Harang 3 for 5
Everybody else 4 for 21
Mattingly better hope the 5-2 lead holds up… Why does he allow Kennedy to hit vs a lefty there?? Let Cruz hit for Kennedy and force Hurdle to burn another RH reliever.. Cruz is an upgrade defensively as well at 3B….
This relief pitching needs to hitch up their pants and do their work.
In the end, relief pitching and win AND can loose games and make or break a season.
Let us see what happens in the 9th for Dodger pen folks.
Someone posted earlier, maybe yesterday, that Matt had been not coming through in some bases loaded situations, but getting his hits in other situations.
Here in the 9th inning, runner on 3rd base —– he is supposed to drive it home.
Oh, sorry for talking negative.
Jansen, 9th inning, now we’re talking. Get’s the job done.
Good point Rodger
Great game by Harang. Great job by Jansen. Thanks for scaring the hell out of me Bellysario

Just got back from the midgets game against the nationals and it was great to see the nats put a 14 spot on the midgets. We need to take 3 out of 4 from the pirates and the nats will help us with the rest. Go Blue!!
