DODGERS REINSTATE RIVERA, OPTION VAN SLYKE
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated outfielder/first baseman Juan Rivera from the 15-day disabled list after optioning outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque following yesterday’s game at Colorado. Van Slyke, 25, batted .194 with two doubles, a home run and six RBI in 17 games with Los Angeles.
Rivera, who has been on the disabled list since May 9 with a left hamstring strain, batted .250 (3-for-12) with two home runs and five RBI in four rehab games with Triple-A Albuquerque and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, last playing on Thursday with the Quakes. The 33-year-old is batting .247 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 25 games with the Dodgers this season, including 13 starts in the outfield and seven at first base.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today placed right-handed reliever Javy Guerra on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 3) with right knee inflammation, selected the contract of right-handed reliever Shawn Tolleson from Triple-A Albuquerque and transferred right-hander Matt Guerrier to the 60-day disabled list. Guerra, 26, was 2-3 with eight saves and a 3.38 ERA in 27 relief appearances this season, while Guerrier has been on the disabled list since April 19 with right elbow tendinitis after going 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in seven games.
Tolleson, 24, will hope to make his Major League debut and has gone a combined 0-1 with five saves and a 2.82 ERA in 19 relief appearances with Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Albuquerque. The Texas native has limited opposing hitters to a .198 batting average with 34 strikeouts in 22.1 combined innings this season, last pitching on Thursday with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning against New Orleans. Tolleson was named the Dodgers’ 2011 Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year, going a combined 7-2 with 25 saves and a 1.17 ERA in 57 relief appearances with Single-A Great Lakes, Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and Chattanooga. Tolleson, who will wear No. 38, has 178 strikeouts in 120.0 innings in his three professional seasons and was originally selected by Los Angeles in the 30th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Baylor University

Smoke and mirrors indeed Roger. Great starts by several players. Pulled hammy’s and players slowing down has stalled the effort. A trade for a thumper would light it back up again.

Good win. Too many KOs. All seven of the pitchers from both teams had very good ERAs so a close game was not a surprise.
Tolleson should do well but the Dodgers need a LOOOONG Reliever.
Boy, these Dodgers are really something. They saw the bottom of the pit — and Gordon showed them the way, then the new guy . . . banged him home.

How do these guy ever loose?
I don’t care how many pitchers the Dodgers draft. The big change this year is likely to be the Dodgers participation in the international market. However, beginning July 2nd new rules go into effect that will limit the ability of big spending teams to spend freely. Figures, since the Dodgers now have money to spend. However, before July 2nd they can spend as they please. Wonder if the Dodgers will get in on the bidding for Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, who was just declared a free agent.
With respect to the draft, there are also new spending limits before penalties kick in, which can be monetary, but can also include the loss of draft picks next year.
Good post Brooklyn, I was about to ask the about Soler as well.
Does anyone know if we’ll be in the bidder for this 20 year old talent? I say go for it now, because spending will be limited soon. May as well flex those bucks!
There are a lot of powerful teams interested in Soler. The bidding will be high.
