Dodgers Just Keep on Keepin’ On

Last night, James Loney seems to get going a little as he went 2-4.  It’s a start, and all the Dodgers need from him is a typical year.  Anything else is icing on the cake.  Ted Lilly pitched very well and seemed to take up where he left off last year.  In case you forget, last August, Ted Lilly had a 2.35 ERA and followed that up with a 1.76 ERA in September.  If he can continue that, all I can say is WOW!

Matt Kemp continues to play like a man-possessed.  He is playing like someone who juiced beat him out of the MVP last year.  He is playing like someone who will hit 50 HR this year.

Todd Coffey on the DL?  Yeah, that’s the ticket.  There was no way the Dodgers could send Lindblom down.

Scott Elbert looks very uncomfortable.  I have worries about him as well as Coffey and Wright.  The good news is that Eovaldi, Tolleson, Patterson and Miller are at the ready.

MINOR LEAGUE NEWS

  • Tim Fedrowicz is also playing like a man possessed.  I think Mr. Misty May should be looking over his shoulder.
  • Admittedly, Alex Castellanos is a defensive “work-in-progress” at 2B, but is ops’ing 1.115 at Albuquerque.  No HR’s but he spraying line drives all over the park.  I believe this guy is going to be a solid major league hitter.
  • Scott Van Slyke is knocking at the door.  It’s been well-chronicled that he didn’t take the game seriously until last year.  Late-bloomer?  More like a late take-it seriously guy.
  • If you forgot about Aaron Miller last season (injuries), I would suggest you re-remember him.  He has 13 K’s in 7.2 innings this season to go with 1.17 ERA.  It’s early, but this guy is a real pitcher… if he can stay healthy.  I could see him as a LH specialist this season if Scott Elbert can’t get it together.
  • Zach Lee is off to a good start at Rancho Cucamonga.  1.80 ERA.  He won’t be there long.  Next stop:  Chattanooga.

Are we looking at Zach Lee next year Mark, or will it be to early….

    • Mark_Timmons says:

I think Zach will at least be ready by the All-Star break next year. You\’ll probably see him in September of THIS year if he can keep it up.

      • Mike Dixon says:

Nice, can’t wait….I ask because with Hamels being a free agent in the offseason I’m sure the Dodgers will be on him, but it will cost at least $22 mil per to sign him….if Zach is in the rotation next year we should provably use that money elsewhere….Kemp, Kershaw and maybe Ethier will be $20 million dollar players…cant have 4 players making $20+…..

  2. Bluenose Dodger says:

I expect Scott Rice with the Isotopes would be the next LH relief guy to head to the Dodgers. He has been very good with Albuquerque, 0 runs in 5 relief innings, and the last guy to be sent down following ST, Lindblom staying.

Really hoping Aaron Miller can stay healthy.

It’s a great time to be in LA.

Kings somehow up 2-0 on #1 seed Vancouver, and game 3 tonight at Staples!

Lakers Mavs at 12:30 at Staples (as a season ticket holder, big game)

Dodgers going for the sweep with the game’s best pitcher on the mound

    I LOVE LA!!

  4. SpokaneBob says:

Steve Lyons is right when he says that this team has alot of guys that are fun to watch. Everyone except Yawn Uribe.

  5. Ken says:

Today we should all admit that Bud did one thing right.

In the holistic world kids are told to eat sunflower seeds to prevent bed wetting. Just saying!

Long term use of beard dye must cause ligament damage as bad as steriods!

Why are the Dodgers winning without Vinny?

The BK Judge has stepped up by telling the lawyers no cry babies allowed in my court.

Elbert is throwing again instead of pitching. Has he always had an arm motion that screams I am afraid of blowing out my elbow so I will try to blow out my shoulder?

Dodger batters are clutch so far this year

    AVE 16th

    OBP 13th

    SLG 16th

    OPS 16th

    RUNS 3rd

  6. RogerDodger says:

The new Dodger ownership seems to have a problem before them, which they have probably already internally responded . . .

For the past year or two or three . . . Dodger fans and even some writers, have said, point blank — Ned needs to go, get rid of the guy, others can do a better job as the Dodger GM.

Well, with a 8-1 record, maybe moving to 9-1 later this afternoon, that is success.

He built this team. Traded some away, signed others. Sure he has used McCourt’s money and permission — but he has build this team.

If, say come June 1st the new ownership moves him to VP of something, and brings in a new GM, that might work. But some folks will scratch their heads . . . he still made the roster, and it is working.

But by June 1st, the Dodgers will have moved from two of the worst teams in baseball and play some more difficult teams. Maybe we need to see just how the guy are come June 1st.

    • Mark_Timmons says:

I doubt that Ned goes anywhere this season unless he butts heads with Kasten and from what I hear, they like each other.

  7. RogerDodger says:

Dodgers look very flat today. Beginning with Kershaw (Mr. Wonderful). So far, the Padres are playing better baseball.

  8. Mike Dixon says:

That was a heck of a triple play…now let’s win it in the 9th…

  9. RogerDodger says:

Dee is the man. He makes winners out of a team that was . . . was . . . in 1st place.

  10. Jae says:

If the Dodgers play just over .500 ball the rest of the season, they will win 90 games.

Pretty cool. BTW, Mark predicted 90 wins.

  11. RogerDodger says:

Mark always predicts 90 wins. What do you expect, a guy who runs a fan board to say, “This team stinks, the owner is garbage, fire the manager, the GM is stupid, you fans know nothing (well, he does say that one once and awhile), the 1950 Pirates had a better team . . . . and the 2012 Dodgers are only a 81-81 or .500 team.”

  12. Joe says:

Great to get out to a fast start, that can allow them to play .500 vs. the top tier teams. This is the most fundamentally sound team the Dodgers have had in a long time. Dee had some issues at short the past couple games but made up for it with his walk off hit

  13. el_che says:

Ned didnt build this team Logan White did.

  14. RogerDodger says:

Logan did not trade a certain catcher to Cleveland . . .
