Rant & Rave Wednesday

  • According to ESPN.com, Joe Torre has quit his day job and is joining half of Los Angeles in bidding for the Dodgers.  The money behind the bid is allegedly Rick Caruso, but I think there may have to be some more money backing that deal.  Evidently Joe is serious.  He would likely be team President if their bid were accepted.  Stay tuned!

    WAKE UP, LARRY!

  • I wonder if Larry Bowa will be Joe’s Assistant or maybe Bob Schaeffer?
  • Andrew Luck sure showed why he’ll be the # pick in the NFL Draft this year.  Not taking anything from RG3, but the worst receiver on Baylor would be the best one on Stanford.  In Indy, we appreciate good quarterbacks.  Remember a guy named Manning?   Good Luck for the Colts!
  • Who will be the first Dodger starter to blow out his arm?  I want to know!
  • Hiroki Kuroda allegedly wants two years at $12-13 mil a year.  Good Luck with that.
  • Watch the Marlins and the Reds this year!
  • Bud Selig likes owners like the Ricketts family.
  • The Diamondbacks will likely finish 2012 near .500!  You heard it here first.
  • When is Bud going to retire and who will be his successor?
  • Will Rubby be back by August?
  • Everyone was up in arms about Ned allegedly signing Coco Crisp – I yawned – it was much adoo about nothing.  Lots of wasted ink!
  • I still don’t like the Dodgers situation at 3B!
  • There are going to be some interesting moves in the minor leagues for the Dodgers this year:
  • Van Slyke and Silverio to AAA, maybe Russell?
  • Garrett Gould and Zach Lee to Chattanooga?
  • Will Chris Reed go to Chatt?
  • Where will Jake Lemmerman play?
  • Will Alex Castellanos switch to 2B?
  • Will Frank McCourt actually EVER sell the Dodgers?

Buds’ term as commish ends at the same time as the long count Mayan calendar. That is 2012, for the uninformed, and he plans to retire.
My own personal favorite for a replacement would be Bob Costas. I’m not sure of the process to select a new one is. Think I’ll go over to the open chat @MLB rumors and see if I can get a bite.

    The sky is falling

  2. Ken says:

I would rather have Frank own the team then the BIG EGO Joe Torre. Would any relief pitcher ever sign with the Dodgers ever again? Oh yea maybe that would be ok.

One of the most over rated managers of all time. Could not win with the best players in baseball for too many years. Treats too many players like his Daddy treated him? Abuse does come in many different approaches.

Not a bad strategic move by Torre to go to work with Bud, violate his employment agreement with the Dodgers and provide confidential information to Bud so that Bud could get rid of Frank and then Bud gives Joe the team? Maybe? Just a bunch of opinions.

  3. Roger Dodger says:

Ken, that sounds like a British mystery novel . . . was there tea involved?

  4. RogerCraig says:

I think Ken has it right

  5. Roger Dodger says:

    This knocked my socks off:

    “The Marlins will pay just $2.5MM of Zambrano’s $18MM salary . . . ”

So the Cubs are eating $15.5 million of the salary. That has to hurt. Plus pay the new salary for Chris Volstad !!!

  6. Jae says:

Z is a head case. Maybe Ramirez and Reyes can help him regain a trace of sanity.

    …or not!
