   I truely feel that Fielder is going to sign a short term deal. Hopefully next year we can revisit the Prince.

   Just thinking out loud here:

   Ethier and Loney sign for a combined $17 million.

   That is in the budget now, right?

   Could Ethier be traded for pitching (a starter, not elite but solid)? Loney sent somewhere as well. Clearing room within the budget for a run at Fielder? $15- $17 million this year backload the rest of the contract (a la Pujols’ deal with the Angels?)

   I am totally just thinking out loud. I know it won’t happen but what do you all think?

   Kershaw is not Koufax but he is better than Marilyn Manson. $8 mil is the correct number, $10 mil is too much, but $6.5 is such an insult that the arbitrator will definitely award $10 mil. The Dodgers just told Kershaw that they do not care whether he leaves in 3 years to go to the Yankess and make $20 mil per year even though the Dodgers will have a new TV contract and could afford to pay him $25 mil per year.

   There are no mysteries in these numbers. Clayton and or his agent wants $8 mil[has a good clue what the counter proposal will be] so to achieve that a $ 10 mil bid is submitted. Really it’s not rocket science.
   With 25 mil going to be the price of a Lincicum, Hamels or Verlander by 2013, Kershaw is just a little younger with 3 Arbitration years left before FA. If we had some money I would try to sign him for 2 years and $24 or all 3 fo $44.

   D Romo, if you trade away Ethier for a pitcher, we would still have to pay the pitchers salary that we are getting in return. Also the salary of who ever Loney brings back. Not sure we could pull that off with Bud’s approval. I’m still burning over the Chris Paul non trade to the Lakers. No faith in the sporting world right now.
