11-11-11 Ramblings

Isn’t this supposed to be when the world ends or something?  Oh well, I’m much too busy to bother with that.  I’m just worried how the Dodgers will fare without Rod Barajas who had 4 million reasons to get out of LA.

Hey, is Russ Martin still available? (Cough).  Don’t forget to check out Jared Massey at www.LAdodgerReport.com.  You’ll recognize his Minor League Report.

Peter O'Malley is back!

It would seem unlikely to the average person that the Dodgers will pursue a free agent such as Prince Fielder or Albert Pujols, but I think it’s more likely than some think.  The Dodgers need more “star power” and either one would provide it.  By letting Loney walk and not resigning Kuroda, the Dodgers would save $15+ million which could go towards a big contract.   For the record, I am not in favor of signing Hiroki Kuroda.  Build a staff like the Cards.

Andre Ethier needs an “off-season-pull-your-head-out-of-your-butt-makeover” that transformed Matt Kemp last year.  ”Andre:  Control your mind, control your destiny and you will be an awesome player.  Clean up your act!”

You might be surprised by some players who could be close to making the team, or even make the team next year:

  • Zach Lee (look for big development next year)
  • Chris Withrow (if he can just improve his control by 10%)
  • Alfredo Silverio
  • Garrett Gould
  • Alex Castellanos (will they really try him at 2B or even 3B?  I’d try it, but then I’d try Sands at 3B too)
  • Scott Van Slyke
  • Jamie Hoffman
  • Shawn Tolleson
  • Allen Webster who is my pick to “pull an Eovaldi” and make the rotation
The Dodgers can be competitive next season WITHOUT a big Free Agent signing, especially if Andre Ethier can extract his head from you know where.  There may be some trades and at the top of my trade list is Javy Guerra whom I think has pitched the best he will ever pitch.  Trade him while his value is high!  There are lots of young power arms coming on.

What about Jorge Posada for a season or two. He could catch 60-70 percent of the games, pinch-hit, and be the DH in the Inter-league play.

Plus, he has more “rings” than Ringling Brothers.

11-11-11 is shanking another corner of the foundation, Carroll is about to sign with the Twins.

So now, of the four corners of last season’s infield: two are gone — Carroll and Barajas. And we are not sure about the other two.

Then, looking at left field with Rivera & Sands (on paper), then what’s his name Ethier in right if he is not traded — and Kemp maybe signing another contract . . .

    . . . the Dodgers seem set.

The foundation is shaky my friends. We are calling the N.L. West flag, and hardly have a team on the field.
