Players of the Day – The Lookouts’ Outfield

All three played important roles in today’s win. First, Fredo collected his 5th straight multi-hit game, his 4th game in a row with a double and is batting .600 over that time with 7 extra base hits and 4 walks compared to just 3 strikeouts. Not as hot as he was in June, but still en fuego.

Second, you have Scott Van Slyke slugging his 16th homer of the season. Hitting a home run is great, but doing it in the 11th inning to give your team the lead is even better. He’s been even hotter than Fredo over the last 10 games, hitting .538 with 6 doubles and 3 home runs down the stretch. In August, he’s batting .451 with an OPS of 1.184.

And finally there’s Alex Castellanos. The toosly 25 year old gunned down Josh Vitters at 2nd in the bottom of the 11th, preserving the comeback win. Al has been smoldering as well since joining his new organization. In 19 games with the Dodgers’ Double A affiliate, he’s batting .368 with 12 doubles, 4 triples and a pair of homers. Oddly, his walk rate has jumped, as he’s drawn 11 free passes compared to just 24 in 93 games in the Texas League.

Any one of these three would be a welcomed sight on the big club next month.

Wow, what has happened to the Sandman?!!!

  2. Badger says:

Sandman been working on getting some “lift” on his drives. He had warning track power with the big club. He might consider a few hours a day in the weight room.

Van Slyke with 7 years in the minors, I would say it’s about time he made the jump. Castellanos with 1600+ minor league at bats should also be about ready. What do the Dodgers have to lose at this point? They are all Major League age, bring ‘em up.

  3. coloblue says:

Sandman has not been doing much…after a good JUne after he got send down he has been terrible..july/aug..hitting about .230 in AAA New mexico…
What ever he is doing is not working.
