John Shoemaker is Proud to be a Dodger

John Shoemaker has been in the Dodger Organization for 35 years.  He started out as a player and did well at the A level, but after that, if you look at his hitting you will know why he became a coach.

Here is a list of the positions he has held with the  Dodgers:

  • 1981-1986 Batting Coach for the Vero Beach Dodgers
  • 1987-1988 Manager of the Vero Beach Dodgers
  • 1989-1991 Manager of the San Antonio Missions – Lost in championship game in 1990
  • 1992 Manager of the Gulf Coast Dodgers
  • 1993 Manager of the Yakima Bears
  • 1995 Manager of the Great Falls Dodgers
  • 1996 Manager of the Savannah Sand Gnats – Won South Atlantic League Championship – AMF
  • 1997-1998 Manager of the Vero Beach Dodgers
  • 2000 Manager of the Vero Beach Dodgers
  • 2001 Manager of the Jacksonville Suns – Won League Championship & Southern League Manager of the Year Award
  • 2002 Minor League Defensive Instructor for the Los Angeles Dodgers
  • 2003 Manager of the Las Vegas 51s
  • 2004 Assistant Field Coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers
  • 2005-2008 Manager of the Jacksonville Suns – Won League Championship in 2005
  • 2009-2010 coordinator of the Los Angeles Dodgers training complex in Glendale, Arizona
  • 2011-present Manager of the Great Lakes Loons

John is as real as they get.  He bleeds Dodger Blue and was the choice to run the new minor league complex in Glendale when it opened.  As the manager of the Greal Lakes Loons he seems to really love the youngsters.  His comments may be different from Davey Lopes comments today because the malaise that is the Dodgers seems to be confined to the Major League team.    Enjoy!

    Old school!!!

He and others like him are the reason why the Dodgers organization is holding together, is still quality, and will survive the damages inflicted by McCourt.

Shoemaker gives me goose bumps. I could never love another team the way I love the Dodgers.

    Thanks again, Mark.

I thought he rode race horses.

  3. Roger Dodger says:

I hear his spirit, that since 1988 . . . but I do not see a World Series appearance since 1988 . . . nor any time soon in the present future.

But it is guys like Shoemaker that make it possible to play and play better in baseball. He is a true team / organization blue blood. Best to him and his players.
