Happy July 4th!

It’s July 4th and the Dodgers are officially out of it. So, let’s first say this”

“The American flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. It flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. Soldiers don’t fight because they hate what’s in front of them…they fight because they love what’s behind them.”

Freedom isn’t Free.  Some paid the ultimate price.  Respect it!  Enjoy it!  Love it!  Live it!  Let Freedom Ring!

Happy Fourth of July!

I am not too enthused about this version of the Dodgers.  I can’t fake it.  So, this is…

Just My Second Baseball Game of the Season:

Every Fourth of July, I take the family to the Indianapolis Indians AAA Baseball Game.  The Indianapolis Indians are the AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates and for the past 15+ years are always home on July 4th.  Each year, I take my family and some other other families to the game.  We have a picnic on the lawn and then go to our seats about the third inning.  After the game we watch TWO (count ‘em 2) fireworks shows – one on the field after the game and then one from the Chase Bank Tower in Downtown Indy (3 blocks away).  It’s a fun evening.  I’m taking 20 people this year and we are all celebrating our freedom.

One of the persons going with us is a Ranger.  He’s 65, but I’d still go to war with him anyday.  My buddy, Roscoe Scott!  Let Freedom Ring!

One final thought about the Dodgers:

What do Casey Blake, Rafael Furcal, Juan Uribe and all the older Dodgers who have repeatedly been on the DL have in common with other older players like Lance Berkman, Carlos Beltran, Michael Young and Placido Polanco?  One thing:  They are all in their late 30′s.

What’s different? Two things:

  1. Berkman, Young, Beltran and Polanco are All-Stars and Playing Great!
  2. Stan Conte trains Blake, Furcal and Uribe – not the others.

It’s certainly something to think about.

Hey Mark, do you remember having a conversation about the Dodgers trainers the year all those DePodesta signings went to the DL and the Dodgers were way under .500? 2005 I believe. I think there was one guy on the team that played more than 140 games. I have always felt that something was wrong with how the Dodgers trained. It sure seems to be worse with all the Jed signings that end up in the hot tub.

    Have fun today.

Yep, there is a definite problem in my opinion.
