There was a time when Davey Lopes hated the Dodgers. Let’s not pretend otherwise. Maybe they deserved it. Maybe not!
After all, Ron Cey, Billy Russell and Steve Garvey were in the fold one way or another.
Lopes seethed, and not always quietly, but the opposite of love is not hate.
It’s apathy, and Lopes was not apathetic about the Dodgers.
He hated that he wasn’t where he should have always been. Now, he’s back in the fold. He’s a smart baseball guy, a great base-running coach, a cancer survivor, a grizzled vet, a tough guy who bleeds Dodger Blue, and the Dodgers new first base coach.
Welcome back to where you started.
Davey Lopes, you are a Dodger again. Teach baseball the Dodger way. Never, Never, Never Quit and teach the Young Guns what you know. Now, all the Dodger Coaches, except for Hillman and Pentland were former Dodger players.
I for one, am glad he is back and I feel good about the Dodgers coaches.

I don’t think Mattingly was a former Dodger player and I believe Trey Hillman was in our minor league system at some point… but other than that… a fantastic hire. Matt Kemp will probably benefit more than anyone
Don Mattingly is the Manager, not a coach, and Hillman was never in the Dodger system.
Like I said – 5 of the 7 Dodger coaches are former Dodgers.
Good move.
Now, let’s get some actual players in here.
welcome home coach!
I agree, and Matt Kemp will be a better player because of Lopes now a coach.
And our future SS Dee Gordon will benefit as well….great move.
Ned is 3 for 3 this offseason in my opinion….Lilly. Kuroda and now Lopes
Great moves by Ned…..
