Player of the Day – Arismendy Ozoria, RHP
There’s not much for me to say about Ozoria, since I’ve never seen video of him or even read a scouting report, so all I’m able to look at are his stats. He debuted last year in the Dominican Summer League and posted an ERA of 2.53 in 15 appearances, striking out 54 in 57 innings. This year, after an awful debut in which he allowed 6 earned runs in 4 innings, Arismendy has been brilliant. He’s only allowed more than 1 earned run once since then, and over his last 3 starts, he’s given up 1 run in 16 innings while striking out 16 and walking 1. His 1.87 G:F says he’s a sinkerballer, and his hits allowed and strikeout rates suggest that he probably has a good secondary pitch already. Lefties hit him pretty well, which leads me to believe the secondary pitch is a slider. But who knows, I could be completely wrong. Anyway, it’s nice to see him having such success and hopefully it continues.

If the Dodgers make a deal that includes pitching prospects, players like Ozoria probably factor into their decision. They may well decide to trade a top pitching prospect if they feel that they have a strong inventory of good young arms we know nothing or very little about, such as players in the Dominican Summer League.
