Lima’s Time

Lima’s Time

They (just who are “they?”) say when it’s your time, you have to go to the “Big Dodger in the Sky.”   I guess it was “Lima’s Time” but it didn’t have to be.  I’ll leave the Joes Lima accolades to the others and take an opportunity to make this a Public Service Announcement:

GET A HEART SCAN!

A heart scan is a non-invasive procedure that shows the amount of calcified plaque you have in your coronary arteries.  Getting a heart scan is quite easy. You lie down fully clothed on an examination table, the scanner passes over you for a minute or two, and then it’s over.   Once the scanned image of your heart has been analyzed, it’s converted into a number ranging from 0 to several thousand. This number is called your Calcium Score. The higher your score compared to others of your age and sex, the more calcified plaque you have in your arteries and the greater your risk for a future heart attack.

Here’s a sample of what a calcium score could be:

  • 0–10 Minimal
  • 11–100 Moderate
  • 101–400 Increased
  • 401+ Extensive

If you have 400, don’t make dinner plans – head directly to the mortician.  My wife and I had heart scans done a few weeks ago and hers was 0.  Mine was .79.  If Jose had gotten a heart scan, the chances are he could have taken measures to do something and he might still be alive. Having a massive heart attack really ruins your day – especially when it kills you – and it ruins your loved ones lives too.  Take the time and get a heart scan.  This is a public service announcement brought to you by LAdodgerTalk.com.

That said, Jose Lima was “one-of-a-kind.”  We’ll miss you “Lima-Time.”  Rest in Peace.

Dodger Notes:

  • The much-maligned Dodger bench (save Garrett Anderson),  has been a huge part of their success during this winning streak. Johnson, Paul, Belliard, Carroll and Ellis have been the ‘Stuntmen.”
  • Didn’t Blake DeWitt look like Orlando Hudson making that sliding catch is RF? The Dodgers can’t be serious about sending him down when Raffy is activated tomorrow.  If I were him and got sent down NOW, I’d refuse to report and ask for a trade!
  • After much deliberation, I think the Dodgers have their sights set on Cliff Lee.  Watch and see!  They will have to overpay with prospects.

Learn something everyday. I have to say that I have never heard of a heart scan. I googled it and went to Mayoclinic dot and got up to date on the procedure and possible risks. Loved the Lima man. Back to the Dodgers. Do you think in the bizzaro world of thought about who to move to make room for Raffy is going something like this? They want to keep Jamie Carroll in the lineup and move him to 2nd base but don’t want Dewitt to sit on the bench so he is optioned to keep fresh and play everyday. Crazy huh, but what in the world can they be thinking?

  2. Roger Dodger says:

Mark, so you measured at 79, great. But did you ask the doctor, if your heart is true ???

  3. mark says:

    Point 79!

And he said I had no heart!

  4. Roger Dodger says:

Mark, did you see the end of “24″ ?

  5. Brooklyn Dodger says:

Carroll is a great backup. The last thing the Dodgers want to do is put him in the lineup everyday. He’s valuable in a utility role, but would probably wear out if he played everyday. And like a lot of utility players, it’s best not to over expose him. Sending DeWitt out would be a slap in the face, and if it happens, he should be deservedly miffed. Want to show a player he’s not valued or appreciated, that’s it.

Also, it will be nice knowing that Carroll is on the bench late in a close game. Remember, coming into this year he had a .348 (or therabouts) lifetime pinch hitting average.

  6. Brooklyn Dodger says:

Oh, and Carroll answered for us the question of whether or not he can play short. Also nice to know late in a game.

  7. mark says:

    Roger,

I have seen all of 24.

Just finished it. I started late – it was recorded.

Looks like some 24 movies will be on the big screen…

  8. Richard Lotz says:

Viva Lima!!! Now that man had fun, made everyone of his teammates a better player and I believe made them better men.

    VIVA LIMA!!!

  9. Harry says:

Sometimes we are not lucky enough to head off a heart attack before it is too late. If you are in the Los Angeles area, you might even qualify for a free heart scan. Check out http://www.freeheartscan.com for details. Go Dodger Blue!
