PITTSBURGH The Los Angeles Dodgers announced their Opening Day roster for the 2010 championship season.  The club also placed left-handed pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26.  General Manager Ned Colletti made the announcement.

According to Major League Baseball rules, each of the 30 teams had to set their Opening Day roster today by 12:00 noon Pacific time.  The Dodgers will make an additional roster move prior to tomorrow’s Opening Day game at the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Wade?  He’s not ready to play, so this just means what?  I won’t speculate, except to say that they must not like Russ Ortiz or Nick Green very much and want to re-sign Dougie-Boy!  Ha!

About Mark Timmons

When you see the invisible, you can do the impossible!

  1. Erik says:

Means they didn’t want to pay Russ a contract for a short term position.

  2. Scoop says:

I thought Wade was going to start the year on the DL?

The Dogs starting with a dozen pitchers and they are going to need all 13 of them.

  3. Mark Timmons says:

It will change between now and tomorrow.

I said I won’t speculate, but what about a trade?

    That could certainly be it.

  4. steevo17 says:

Wade? REALLY? Well huh…he hasn’t thrown a single inning this spring. Me thinks something is smelly in the state of Dodgerland. I hope that we’re in for a surprise. I’m disappointed that Miller didn’t stick, he had a good spring.

Other than that bombshell, the roster went exactly as I expected…no Hu OR Green and only 2 catchers. Ellis had a fine spring and I thought of keeping him instead of Ausmus, but he will benefit more from playing everyday at AAA and be ready to start if Martin goes down.

Gurnick has a good look at the farm system:

Get ready for some baseball. 10:35am tomorrow and I’m counting the minutes. I can’t wait…DODGERS IN 2010!!!

  5. Ken says:

They are just screwing with Ortiz as part of their money problem based negotiations with him. Wade will go to the DL tomorrow morning and Ortiz could be a low paid pitcher for 2-3 weeks. If Ortiz plays chicken during the negotiations, then the Dodgers could keep Link for 2 weeks and bring back the “beloved” Belisario.

Lets put Ortiz on the plane and in our hotel rooms while we ngotiate when him a league minimum salary. If he refuses then he can buy hios own ticket to go him. Unsafe in the Dugout.

  6. Ken says:

Martin to bat 2nd tommorrow. This is great if he actually has resurrected his humility and will gladly play little ball, by going to right field at least one third of the time. Kemp can now bat where a HR/KO guy should bat.

  7. lawdog says:

So now our team is reduced to playing chicken with geezers over nickels and dimes. I knew this day was coming but figured it was still at least 18 months away.

I’ve got a really bad feeling about this season. It’s as if we’re being thrown overboard in the middle of the Pacific with one life boat with a 25 man capacity and 150 people in the drink. (Gotta love dem smileys! Bless ‘em.)

  8. Mark Timmons says:

If you two attorneys believe that, you need your heads examined. Ortiz already has a contract!

…and they don’t really want him anyway.

He has pitched with smoke and mirrors. It won’t keep up and they know it, unlike Ramon who has Great Stuff!

  9. Scoop says:

Martin in the two hole makes more sense than does Kemp.

And the rest of that stuff is …. puzzling.

  10. Mark Timmons says:

I used to really like Martin in the #2 hole, but I really like Kemp there too. If he stays there, he’ll score a lot of runs early. I look for Kemp to improve both his BA and OB% this year.
