The Big Dodger in the Sky Makes Torre a Genius

Mark Loretta?  That bum is a waste of roster space!Ronnie Belliard?  Why should he start over Hudson.

Jeff Weaver?  Keep McDonald on the playoff roster for crying out loud!

Jim Thome?  Forget it, he’s shot!

Juan Castro?  Why waste a spot for him when he won’t play?

It was Joe Torre who decided which guys he wanted on the playoff roster, and four of the five have already made an impact.

The Big Dodger in the Sky had a say in all this, including when he “blinded” Matt Halliday in the 9th inning.

  • Jeff Weaver saved our bacon when he took over for Randy Wolf in Game #1.
  • Jim Thome was drilled by Wainright, who didn’t want to lose the game by a HR to Thome (say what you want, Wainright hit him on purpose and I don’t blame him).   Thome puts fear into the other teams’ pitcher.
  • Mark Loretta won the game by driving in the winning run last night.
  • Ronnie Belliard drove in the tying run last night.
  • Juan Castro?  He’s really the only backup SS if Raffy were to get injured.  O-Dog, Belliard or Loretta can’t play SS unless it’s an emergency one inning gig.  We may need him before this series is over.

We are up 2-0.  Joe Torre is a genius!

I could see us making a move in the next series if we play the Phillies.  That being adding Scott Elbert to the roster, since the Phillies have so many LH hitters.

The Big Dodger in the Sky is smiling.  Conventional wisdom says we don’t beat Carpenter and Wainright.  Conventional wisdom doesn’t faze the Big Dodger in the Sky!

Now, we better close it out on Saturday, because Carpenter AND Wainright will be tough to beat again!  Kick ‘em while they are down.  Show no mercy and take no prisoners!

Great points Mark…. So far every move that’s been made has worked out. Let’s hope it continues.

I still believe this team has what it takes to win the whole thing.

A stroke of Luck is more like it and not so much genius. I wonder if Matt Holiday got any sleep last night? Wainwright was crying like a baby. Like the Dodger fans are the only ones with rally towels in the playoffs. I had more respect for Wainwright before that comment yesterday.
Castro will not see any playing time in this series but the other moves have been gold so far. I feel bad for O-Dogie but Belliard has the hot hand right now. O-Dogie slumped at the wrong time. I still haven’t come down from my high yesterday. If I could bottle that excitement, I would be a rich man. Fight on Dodger fans.

I have never seen another SS play as deep as the porn star SS for the Cardinals. I thought Raffy played deep but Ryan is 10 steps back on the grass. Albert also plays further over towards second as any first baseball in the league. Lugo made a webgem of a play on Kershaws hit up the middle yesterday. They are a great team that must be taken out in game three. I hope Padilla is up for the task.

I have a feeling that Odog still has a part to play in our post season.

Don’t forget it was James Loney who turned that ball into a Hot Potato. LOL!!

I am enjoying viewing all the replays today. And the blogs, including Matt Kemp’s blog.

Mark, are you a scout or have you been a scout? If not, you have that ability. I was thinking also how the Dodgers surely have people going out to all the AL games and the other NL series. Thinking and planning ahead are key.

And, staying on the good side of the Big Dodger in the Sky.

I absolutely agree that we must not let the series come back to LA. Our backs will be against the wall then! By the same token our guys should not let their guard down (we all know how they struggled closing out last time we had 1 game to win). Padilla should have a short leash tomorrow and have Garland or Weaver waiting in the wings! Pinero is beatable, in fact the experts I talked to before the series started said “if the Dodgers could manage a split in LA they will have a good chance to beat Pinero and anything can happen in a 5th game” Having beaten the Cards and surviving their best 1-2 punch, now is our shot!

It is critical we beat the Cards tomorrow!

    Beer is on ice!

Okay, you didn’t heed my advice about encouraging Ken and his songs, well trust me on this, “don’t encourage Mark on his scouting skills”. It has taken us many years to bring him down to earth and I don’t want you to over-inflate his head. However, he does a pretty good job of noticing talent that he sees first hand (however don’t tell him I said that, his wife will be pissed that his hats no longer fit him).

Somebody needed an ice pack on their package, errrrr, stomach following that game. What are the chances of Holiday screwing that up again? I don’t know, but I liked the outcome last time.
