Positive Reinforcement

Positive Reinforcement

Yesterday when I said it was time for the Dodgers to put up or shut up, I was not being negative.  It’s just time to quit talking about it and just get

NO Mountains Can Be Moved, Until You KNOW Mountains Can Be Moved!

NO Mountains Can Be Moved, Until You KNOW Mountains Can Be Moved!

down to the business of doing it.  At this juncture, the season has dragged on for 140+ games.  Guys are beat up, guys are tired, guys are physically fatigued, and most importantly, they may be mentally fatigued.  Jon Broxton was mentally fatigued (that’s what I believe), so much so in August that he had his “meltdown.”  To his credit, he has came back with steel resolve.  This is the time of year when your mind can lead you to where you body won’t go.  Champions all have that quiet confidence, that steely resolve, that “get  ‘er done attitude.”  A winner won’t be denied.  This is the big test for these young Dodgers.  The vets have been there and understand the meaning of “dog days.”  Kemp, Loney, Martin and Ethier – all have to step up and take this team on their shoulders.  This is what you have been waiting for.  This is your team…  now bring home the pennant!  Some of you may say, “I’ll believe it when I see it!”  With this group of youngsters, they WILL see it, IF they believe it!

It all starts Tonight with Hiroki Kuroda against Matt Cain.  That seems like a mis-match and the Giants would like nothing better than to ruin the Dodgers season.  Misery loves company.  It may seem like we are doomed, but this is where belief equals results.  If you believe you might lose, you will.  If you think you might lose, you probably will get that result.  But if you KNOW you will win, you will.  YOU GET WHAT YOU BELIEVE!  ALWAYS & FOREVER!  It all starts with a thought…

Player of the day – Nick Akins, OF

Akins hasn’t been quite as dominant in Ogden as he had been in the AZL, but his numbers are anything but disappointing. He’s struggling against lefties, which is weird for a righty. His OPS is a very respectable .858 in Ogden and .967 overall. He’s showing plenty of power with 20 doubles and 11 home runs. He’s also walking more in the Pioneer league than the AZL. It should be very interesting to see what Nick can do in full season ball next year.

The Photo today looks like Andre Ethier (Softie), trying to hold up the Dodger team. Great Job Mark…….

  2. Matt says:

Here is my take: This is a good thing for the Dodgers. Yes they must finish well and make it to October, but had they run away with the division ALL the pressure would be on them in the postseason. Now when they make it to October they can relax and play loose knowing that the division/WC race is over.
I firmly beleive we will win the division and then its like a new lease on life, they will go out and just may win the whole daggum thing.

This can be a good thing….GO DODGERS

  3. Illini Dodger says:

It’s time to bring the Giants pitching staff back to earth starting with Matt Cain. Let him be embarassed tonight.

  4. chucky says:

It is time to put up or shut up. Two game lead (due to the Rocks playing well) but we are playing like a .500 club.

We are NOT a .500 club we are much better than that. The vets need to take control and get us going (do you hear that Manny, Casey).

Go Dodgers, I have seen the Giants take it away from us before, DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Today we push for the pennant. This will define us as a team, it starts today.

    The Greatest Play in Baseball

If tomorrow all the things were gone
. . I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
. . with just my children and my wife,
    I’d thank my lucky stars
. . to be livin’ here today.
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
. . And they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
    And I gladly stand up
. . next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
    God bless the USA

    From the lakes of Minnesota
… To the hills of Tennessee
… Across the plains of Texas
… From sea to shining sea
… From Detroit down to Houston
… And New York to LA
Well there’s pride in every American heart
And its time we stand and say..

That I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up . . next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
    God bless the USA

And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up . . next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
    God bless the USA!

    Thanks to Lee Greenwood.

  6. Blue Haze says:

    Right on Kay!

    God Bless America!!!!

  7. lawdog says:

So, we going to try a little political discussion on this board after all?

  8. Bill Russell says:

Purple Haze all in my brain, Thing thing things just don’t seem the same.
Acting funny and I don’t know why, excuse me while I kiss the sky.
    Jimi

  9. Blue Haze says:

So remembering 911 is a political thing, go figure. I thought it was an American thing, silly me.

  10. Bill Russell says:

Let’s go Dodger Dogs clap clap – clap clap clap
Let’s go Dodger Dogs clap clap – clap clap clap
Let’s go Dodger Dogs clap clap – clap clap clap

It’s a big series boys and girls. We must break out tonight. Ethier owns Matt Cain and we must show him the door early. Big game for everyone……. Can Casey Blake anwser the bell tonight? Will Belliard stay in the lineup? Can Kuroda find his prebean mojo? Will Kemp stay in the 2 hole? Find out next on MLB network.

  11. Mark Timmons says:

    Blake is back.

    Belliard still in:

    1. Furcal, SS

    2. Ethier, RF

    3. Manny, LF

    4. Kemp, CF

    5. Loney, 1B

    6. Blake, 3B

    7. Belliard, 2B

    8. Martin, C

    9. Kuroda, P

  12. Badger says:

We have come a long way since this date 2001.

Wait a minute. No we haven’t. Nevermind.

Belliard will do less damage at 2b.

This is a good lineup. But, I would rather see ODog in it.

  13. Blue Haze says:

Manny will have a big series against the giants.

Kemp will have a big series against the giants.

  14. Mark Timmons says:

    First Inning.

    Who does the damage?

    Ethier, Loney, Kemp!

    Right on!

  15. Badger says:

I think I see a trend. Manny takes strike one, often it’s a first pitch fastball right down the tube. After that, they screw with him, corners and down and away. He might want to think about looking dead red and driving one of those into the seats just to let pitchers know they can’t get away with it.

  16. Mr.Mike says:

    Sweet baby James!

  17. Illini Dodger says:

    Cain’s not foolin’ the lefties.

  18. Illini Dodger says:

Cain is getting lucky. We need to get to him b4 he settles down. When did these clowns learn to play defense?

  19. Mark Timmons says:

    1st Inning

    1. Vet = Out
    2. Youngster = Hit
    3. Vet = Out
    4. Youngster = Hit
    5. Youngster = Hit
    6. Vet = Out

    Get my drift?

  20. Illini Dodger says:

Cain lucky again v. Manny. His slider is working now. This is gonna be a rough one.

  21. Mr.Mike says:

Easy out, everybody in. TG we have Andre, Matt and James! Bat Manny 8th.

  22. Mark Timmons says:

Cain has 73 pitches through 4 innings. We will see the Giants pen.

  23. Illini Dodger says:

Should have scored there. Ethier is anxious at the plate now.

  24. Mark Timmons says:

It’s nice to have Blake back!

  25. Illini Dodger says:

    Broke out the whoopin’ sticks!!!!

  26. Mark Timmons says:

Colorado is behind 1-0 in the 8th. Hopefully the Padres can hold them.

  27. Mark Timmons says:

    9-1!

    WhoooooHooooooo!

  28. Illini Dodger says:

I’m lovin’ this game. Sweet to have a big lead FOR ONCE.

  29. Illini Dodger says:

Kuroda is a great role model. WWhat courage that man has! He’s our #1 in my mind.

  30. Illini Dodger says:

I’m thinkin’ the boys “put up” some runs, so we would “shut up”.

  31. Ken says:

Kuroda loves red hats (feng shui)!

  32. Illini Dodger says:

Maybe he can wear one underneath!

  33. Illini Dodger says:

    Kuroda = Clutch performance.

  34. Illini Dodger says:

Heath Bell just blew the save AGAIN.

  35. Illini Dodger says:

Barring a miracle, Rox win again. Bell is pathetic.

  36. Illini Dodger says:

Guess we’ll have to take care of the Rox ourselves.

  37. phillyblue says:

Can someone let me know when the ranting digressions of psycho-babble stop? Maybe I’ll then start reading the blog again. I mean, really, is there any semblance of analysis any more? I think my eyes are bleeding from reading so many late-night-self-help cliches. This blog shouldn’t be your personal therapy.

    Go Dodgers!

  38. Illini Dodger says:

    Sorry I offended you.

  39. A Shot of Haeger says:

philllyblue… please drive to the nearest man-made structure that allows people and automobiles to cross over large bodies of water… climb to the edge of this structure…. bend your knees and fling your body off this structure and land in the icy water below. Then you can have carnal relations with yourself.

This blog has both analysis and self-help. There are posters on here who tick me off often….but this is the 2nd best Dodger blog there is.

Sorry Mark, Dodger Thoughts is my favorite… but yours is great as well.

  40. Mark Timmons says:

Dodger Thought is only better because Jon happens to be a real writer. I could frequently be arrested for impersonating a writer!

  41. Badger says:

Yeah, philly, give us your address and phone number and we can arrange to let you know when the ranting here stops.

Mark, I think you would only be arrested for impersonating a writer once. If they jail you, problem solved. If they acquit you, problem continues, but you won’t likely be arrested again.

I went to bed in the 6th inning last night. We had a flood here in Sedona and I was operating a wheelbarrow most of the day. Wiped me out. I am too old for labor. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to read the box this morning. But, the Rockies look serious about this – 8 in a row.

We beat Cain 4-1. That’s a huge step in the right direction.
