Two Lefties - Clayton Kershaw & Stephen Timmons

The season starts now!  It’s all boils down to this.  The next three games could very well determine our fate.  Not that we would automatically lose the Division by losing the series to the Rockies, but if we were to sweep the Rockies, THAT could very well be the end of Jim Tracy’s bunch.  Tonight, Clayton Kershaw starts the most important game of his young career.  He is pitching in Colorado.  The air is thin.  The Rockies are hot.  They are confident.  Is Clayton a Contender for the Ace spot or a Pretender?  I have always said that Clayton would be our Ace, but I never expected that it would be THIS year!  However, THIS is the year we need him to step up and claim the role.  Is he up to it?  Watch and learn!

  • Baseball is a game of streaks.
  • We had ours early.
  • The Rockies are having theirs now.
  • We will have another.
  • Our bad streak will end.
  • Their good streak will end.
  • They are not as good as they have been playing.
  • We are not as bad as we have been playing.
  • We will win 95 games.
  • Can they? – Not likely!

Player of the day – Dee Gordon, SS

Gordon has had a great full season debut, far better than many would have expected. He’s now among the minor league leaders with 69 stolen bases, with a success rate of about 75%. He’s holding his own against lefties, batting .281 with a very impressive .383 OBP against them. And to top it off, despite his high error totals, Total Zone rates his defense in the first half as near average. Dee took a foul ball off his leg and exited the game early today, but he’ll be back polishing his skills soon.

  1. Kay in L.A. says:

FWIW, Weaver was good his last couple of starts. Kershaw is unpredictable up to this point.

On the other hand, starting Padilla on Thursday sounds ominous to me. I agree with Lawdog re Vicente’s role and his potential to aggravate retaliation.

Offensive talent is presently going to waste and it seems to me management, coaching, etc. could correct this…??

  3. matt says:

damn our 8th round pick jonathon garcia is 17 years old and Doing GREAT in the AZL…

  4. Ken says:

With Futile leading off again there will be no Grand Slam for Manny in the 1st inning. WOW

Good thing the kid looks like the Mrs.!!

Someone did not focus well enough to count left, right, left, right all of the way through the lineup tonight. And we wonder why the players have not been focused. Drink some Tea.

Jim Tracy is a hard-hitting, fast-shooting, and supremely intelligent Manager who has matched wits with a variety of colorful opponents. Which Dodger will play the role of “Big Boy Caprice” tonight.

I’ll have you know that my son got ALL his looks from me…

    his mother still has hers…

  6. matt says:

this team is going nowerhee as long as furcal leads off…

joe torre please read this !!

  7. Blue Haze says:

Time for Kemp in the leadoff role, sadly our best lead off hitter and base stealer must watch from the bench.

  8. Bill Russell says:

Nice start so far tonight. Go Blue

  9. Blue Haze says:

I noticed in Manny’s second at bat, that he really stayed back on his back leg (like he did all of last season with the Dodgers), I guess he is reading my posts (oh wait, that is someone else’s belief and/or ultimate desire).

Question about Kershaw: Can a pitcher that is sometimes awesome, then other times terrible, then other times awesome for 3 or 4 innings then walks the entire line-up in one inning, then recovers and pitches well the rest of the game, really even be considered close to being an ace? Not for me, an ace is a stopper for his team and is counted on to be the stopper. In Kershaw’s case, he really never can be counted on, you just never know what you are going to get out of him. Now, one day, he may arrive as a ace starter, at this point in his career he is a struggling kid with lots of potential but has a lot to still learn about “the game” and still alot to learn about “his game”.

  10. Badger says:

Kershaw has ace stuff. But, he is not yet an ace. He is only 21. 21 year old aces are extremely rare.

    Furcal is waiting for September.

  11. Mark Timmons says:

I was expecting a No-No, but Kershaw is doing OK! Like Badger says, he has Ace-Stuff, but he’s 21. Since we have a 23, 26, 28 and 29 year-old, I know how rare it is to have a 21 year-old ace.

My 23-year old can barely walk!

  12. Badger says:

Fernanado was an ace at 21. So was Dwight Gooden. I don’t know of any others really, but I am sure somebody can come up with one or two others.

  13. Badger says:

Typical Kershaw start, 100 pitches, 6 innings and no decision.

Once again, it is up to the pen to win the game.

    Anytime offense.

  14. Mark Timmons says:

Fernando was done by 29, but I still don’t believe he was 19 when he started. That’s a lie!

  15. Ken says:

Rockies picked up their Roids guy – Giambi. Now I guess the 2 teams are even.

  16. Ken says:

    Screw Torre

He is the biggest f…ing liar. The news is that Haeger is being moved to Saturday so that Bills can get back to 5 days rest. I despise liars. The truth is that Haeger just got moved from 5th to 2nd in the rotation which is Kuroda’s spot. Therefore, if Padilla is not terrible then Haeger is out of the rotation when Kuroda comes back. Thanks Judy for pulling the ball away again. Free Grady!!

  17. Bill Russell says:

    Free Grady…. lol It’s down ta two…………….

  18. Blue Haze says:

So you two did agree with my statement “Now, one day, he may arrive as a ace starter, at this point in his career he is a struggling kid with lots of potential but has a lot to still learn about “the game” and still alot to learn about “his game”.

    I thought so.

  19. Badger says:

I have been saying that all year Haze.

And the pen can’t win it.

The Rockies are for real. Are the Dodgers?

  20. LADODGERDAVE says:

cant feel to good about this one…..

where is the FIRE in this team?!?!?!?

loney looks like he hasnt played baseball in years….i try so hard to stick up for the guy but after tonight its becoming pretty hard

colorado rockies are rolllllllllllllllllin……if no one told me, i would have thought jason marquis was out there…..we cant beat aces….we arent beating 2 or 3 or 4 starters…..this offense is looking pathetic

    furcal- instant 0-fer
    loney- slow roller to first
    hudson- what is going on?????
ramirez-k or single, but will give up a run on a slow jog in LF
martin- this guy pops up more then anyone ive ever seen, instant out
