TOM O’SHEA’S MINOR LEAGUE REPORT        8-2-09

BREAKING NEWS:   HAEGER DOES IT AGAIN!   CHARLIE HAEGER (W. 11-6, 3.58) was masterful once again giving the Isotopes yet another quality start, going 6 innings on just one hit, one earned run, 3 walks and 8, count them 8 strike outs!!!  STRICKLAND (S, 23, 3.19), pitched one perfect inning and collecting one K to finish Nashville off.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think HAEGER desrves to be the Dodger #5 starter a lot more thwan JASON SCHMIDT.  FREE HAEGER!  Bring him up Joe!   If you do the Dogs will win moreTHE OGDEN RAPTORS    ROOKIE

Raptors crush Idaho Falls 11-1.minorleaguerept-logo

MAGILL (W, 3-1, 4.62), went 5 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits, 3 walks and 6 Ks. THOMPSON (H, 2, 6.75), went 3 innings of no hit ball, walking and striking out 1.  FERRERAS (1.08), went one inning of no hit ball walking just one.  The pitching was terrific!

JACOBS (.311), hit his 4th homer in the 8th.

RUGGIANO (.360), and  CAVAZOS-GALVEZ (.319), both added doubles.

JACOBS went 4-5, RUGGIANO (our future replacement for BLAKE), went 3-6.  ERICKSON (.352, and MARTIN’s replacement)  3-4 with 5 rbis.  CAVAZOS-GAVEZ, ORR (.244), and IDEN (.236), all had 2 hit games.

This team rocks!

THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES       AAA

The Isotopes swept a double header from Nashville by the scores of 4-1 and 2-1.

GAME 1:  CHARLIE HAEGER (W.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think HAEGER deserves to be the Dodger #5 starter a lot more than JASON SCHMIDT.  FREE HAEGER!  Bring him up Joe!   If you do the Dogs will win mo’e.

REPKO (.255), whacked a double.  REPKO, JONES (.301), and LUNA (.361) all had 2 hit games.  ABREU (.333), continued his hot hitting with a hit.

GAME 2:  In another  chapter of pitching by  5 short relievers, the Isotopes managed to outlast Nashville and win 2-1. BONILLA (5.40), LINDBLOM (2.75), LEACH (0.00), FELIX (W, 1-0, 2.254) and STRICLAND (S, 24, 3.11), all pitched superbly with only starter B ONILLA surrendering a run (earned).  STRICKLAND saved both ends of the double header which still makes me suspect Joe Torre, or his evil twin is the pitching coach in Albuquerque.  Do they want STRICKLAND’S arm to fall off before he even gets a sniff at the major leagues?

BROWN (.306), and HU (.273), both hit doubles.  HARPER (.293) had a 2 hit game.

THE CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS     AA

The Lookouts beat the West Team 6-2.

CASTILLO (W, 7-7, 4.64) pitched a quality start going 6 innings and giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 Ks.  SCHREIBER (H, 1, 1.29), was less effective going 2 innings and giving up an earned run on 4 hits, 0 BBs and 3 Ks.  GARATE (2.08), finished up, as usual, with a perfect inning, striking out 2.

GILES (.273), hit his 9th homer in the 8th inning, a 3 run blast.)  GUITERREZ (.296),  added his first triple.  SELLERS (.299), PEREZ (.271), MITCHELL (.223), and MARTINEZ (.301), all added doubles again proving that the Lookouts are a veritable double machine.  SELLERS went 3-4.

THE INLAND EMPIRE    A     ADVANCED

Lancaster whips the 66ers butts 6-2.

SMIT (L, 0-3, 10.32),  stunk once more going just 5 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits, 2 walks and just 2 Ks.   Better than his last efforts, but he doesn’t seem to be improving very fast.  JANSON (10.80), proved totally ineffective allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits and 2 walks while getting just 2 outs before getting the hook.  He did strike out one of the two outs he managed to get.  MELGAREJO (6.17), pitched 2 innings of shut out, 1 hit ball allowing no walks and striking out 2.  PRADO (3.90), finished up with 1.1 innings of 2 hit shut out ball, giving up 0 walks and striking out 1.

BECKER (.364) smacked a triple, his first.  MATTINGLY (.249) hit his 20th double.  MATTINGLY had a 2 hit game.

THE GREAT LAKES LOONS    A

The Loonies edge Clinton 4-3.

Great Lakes pitched the game by committee of short relievers like the Isotopes did and managed to win.  MILLER (3.00) was relatively effective giving up 1 earned on 2 hits, 2 walks and 6Ks.  AGUASVIVA (1.77), less so, going 4 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and 3 Ks.  ST. CLAIR (W, 4-1, 3.42), was his brilliant self going 2 shut out innins on 1 hit, 2 BBs and 2Ks.

LOPEZ  (.161), BUSS (.252), and DALTON (.204) all doubled.  DELMONICO (.285) had a 2 hit game.
