TOM O’SHEA’S MINOR LEAGUE REPORT        7-26-09

THE OGDEN RAPTORS      ROOKIE

Idaho Falls beats Raptors 8-7.

WALLACH (2.35), went 2.2 innings and allowed 0 earned runs, 1 hit, 2 walks and fanned 3.  FERRERAS (1.23), went .1 inning (one out), giving up just a walk.  CASTILLO (4.75) went 3.1 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.  QUINTERO (BS, 1, L, 0-1, 1.32), went 1.2 innings allowing an earned run on 2 hits and 2 walks striking out 1.  And GUADI (5.19) finished up going one perfect inning and striking out 1.

We might not be developing any starters down on the farm in Ogden, but we sure will have a big pot full of short relievers!   Good trade bait I suppose.minorleaguerept-logo

RUGGIANO (.365), and JACOBS (.315) homered for the Raptors. CAVAZOS-GALVEZ whacked yet another triple.  JACOBS (.315), and CAVAZOS-GALVEZ added doubles for the squad.  CAVAZOS-GALVEZ and JACOBS had 3 hit performances with JACOBS driving in 4 runs.

THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES      AAA

The Isotopes beat Iowa 4-2.

ALVARADO (W, 8-8, 3.42), pitched a quality start going 7.1 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and 3 Ks.  SCHLICTING (H, 6, 1.54) got 2 outs without giving up any runs, hits or walks whole striking one of the hitters out.  STRICKLAND (S, 21, 3.38), pitched a shut out inning giving up just one hit  to finish the game and earn the save.

The Isotope hitters continued to blast the ball into the gaps and hit 6 doubles.  HARPER (.292) hit 2; CLOSSER (.336), ABREU (.318), BROWN (.309), and HOFFMAN (.286), all added one a piece.  HARPER (.292), went 3-3 with one walk, CLOSSER went 2-4.

THE CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS    AA

The Lookouts were idle.

THE INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS      A     ADVANCED

Visalia stomped the 66ers once again, 6-0.

ALVAREZ (L, 2-4, 5.52) started and lost going 5.2 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits, 2 BBs and 6 Ks.  SANFLER (4.86), pitched 2.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, 0 walks and 3 Ks.  KREBS (3.14) mopped up going 1 inning and allowing 0 earned runs on 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 K.

VAN SLYKE (.304), clubbed a double.

THE GREAT LAKES LOONS   A

Quad Cities beats the Loonies once again, 5-1.

MILLER (L, 5-7, 4.79) was horrible. losing the game for the Loons berfore the game hardly started going 3.2 innings and giving up 5 earned runs on 8 hits, 4 walks and 3 strike outs.  He’d best keep a low profile and wear a Groucho Marx fake nose and glasses if he plans to go out on the town tonight after taking such a public whipping like this.  DUTTON (4.50), by contrast, actually pitched well going 2.1 innings of shut out ball allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk while fanning 3.  BOOTHE (5.45), did a cracker jack job of mopping up going 2 innings of no run, no hit ball–walking 1 and striking out 1.

GORDON (.299), HATCH (.278), and SILVERIO (.280) all smacked doubles.  GORDON and SILVERIO went 2-4.

SONGCO (.128) drew a collar going 0-4.

whats up with the dodgers not letting their youngers guys throw some innings. We got a bunch of short relievers like you said. Why cant they go more then just 4 innings or so like eovaldi and ethan martin seem like they do everytime?
