THE OGDEN RAPTORS            ROOKIE

There was no box score available at the Raptor site, but Jake Kelman’s recap tells all Raptor fans what they need to know about yesterday’s game:

“Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the eighth inning at Mike Lansing Field in Casper, Wyoming Sunday evening, the Ogden Raptors still felt confident. That’s because their fearsome heart of the order was due up to bat.

Jerry Sands, the Pioneer League’s leading hitter entering the night, drew a walk to begin the inning. Then rookie left-fielder Angelo Songco stepped to the plate and unloaded a monster home run to right field to put the Raptors in front. It was Songco’s third homer of the week and his fifth of the season. Ogden added an insurance run later in the inning, and after Daigoro Rondon loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, he struck out Casper center-fielder Eliezer Mesa to preserve the 5-3 win.

The Raptors have won a season-best three consecutive games to move one game over .500 for the first time this year at 7-6.

Matt Magill started for Ogden, and after allowing three runs in the first, settled down to finish with 5.0 strong innings. J.B. Paxson (1-0)worked 3.0 scoreless frames in relief to earn the win.

Ogden swept the two-game series with Casper after a 14-7 win Saturday night. The Raptors will enjoy an off-day Monday before beginning a seven-game home-stand Tuesday night against the Great Falls Voyagers.”

In looking at the stats of our AA team, I notice that the best hitters down there, Nivar, Tomlin and Martinez, are all pushing 30. They are not prospects, are getting playing time and putting up numbers no other ML team is going to be interested in.

  2. Mark Timmons says:

That is pretty typical of nearly every level. You have some older guys who just can’t get past that level where they are playing but do become pretty good A, AA and AAA players.

At Chattanooga, the following players are true prospects:

Atkins, Bastardo, Castillo, Garate, Guerra, Koss, Rodriguez, May, Bell, Perez and Lambo

The rest are suspects. Atkins, Lambo and Bell are Top 20 Dodger Prospects. Koss and May could also break the Top 20.

Top 20 Prospects at AAA are Elbert, Lindbloom, Ellis, Hoffman and maybe Rosario (outside shot). Abreu could be if healthy.

Top 20 Prospects at A are: Johnson, Withrow, Baez, Robinson, Van Slyke and maybe Hererra.

Top 20 Prospects at Low A are: Russell, Eovaldi, martin, Delmonico, Gallagher, Redding and Gordon
