TOM O’SHEAS’ MINOR LEAGUE REPORT    07-08-09

THE OGDEN RAPTORS     ROOKIE

The Raptors demolish Great Falls 19-2.

VASQUEZ (W, 1-1, 5.93, pitched 5 innings without giving up any earned runs, 43 hits, 4 walks and 1 K.  FERRERAS (2.25), and AMES (1.23), pitched 3 shutout innings in relief and SOLANO (5.68) pitched the final inning giving up just one earned run on 1 hit, a solo shot.

minorleaguelogosSANDS (.460), WISE (.429), RUGGIANO (.833), and YOUNT (.324) all went yard for the Raptors.  SONGCO (.379), hit 2 doubles, GUERRERO (.250), and WISE each added a 2 bagger as well.

Only CAVAZOS_GALVES (.62), the lead off hitter failed to produce at least 1 hit amongst the starting 9.  RUGGIANO, SONGCO, and WISE all had 3 hit games. SANDS, YOUNT, and ORR (.226) all had 2 hit games.

Wow!  Go ahead and trade the entire AAA and AA rosters for the Ace pitcher we need. We’ve got a whole trainload of sluggers who hit  for high average at the bottom of the farm system about to hit the fast track!

THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES    AAA

The Isotopes smack Memphis in 10 innings, 11-7.

THE INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS     A    ADVANCED

The 66ers shut out Lake Elsinore 3-0.

I’m beginning to wonder whether or not the 66ers ever play anybody else other than the Lake Elsinore squad.  SEXTON (W, 5-8, 2.72), was masterful for 6.1 innings allowing just 6 hits, 1 walk and fanning 6.  MELGAREJO  (H, 2, 4.76), pitched perfection for 1.2 innings fanning 3.  MCCARTER (S, 5, 2.77), got the save, pitching the last inning and giving up 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 BB and 1 K.

CASERES (.292) smacked his 17th double.  BAEZ (.285), and LARA (.259), both went 2-4.

THE GREAT LAKES LOONS      A

The Loons punched out Peoria 12-3.

MILLER (W, 4-5, 4.53) got the win with a “quality start” going 7 innings while allowing 2 earned runs, 7 hits, 2 walks and 7 Ks.  SMIT (5.57), pitched 2 quality innings of relief allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits, 0 BBs and 3 Ks.

RUSSELL (.282) smacked his 20th tater in the 5th.  PEDROZA (.262), added a homer of his own in the 5th inning–his 11th of the year.  RUSSELL added his 3rd triple in the 3rd.  SILVERIO (.270), and WALLACH (.238) both hit doubles.

SILVERIO went 3-5.  RUSSELL and GORDON (.306) both went 2-5.  RUSSELL and PEDROZA both had 4 RBIs a piece.  Every starter except VETTERS (.219) got at least one hit.

Solid game for the Loons in all aspects!
