TOM O’SHEAS’ MINOR LEAGUE REPORT                 7-6-09

THE OGDEN RAPTORS      ROOKIE

The Raptors were not scheduled to play last night.

THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES    AAA    Isotopes Park

Game 1:  Nashville beat the Isotopes 5-3.

HAEGER (3.73) pitched 3 innings of 3 hit ball on 7-04 before the game was interrupted by rain.   He gave up 1 run, walked 0 and K’d 2.  STULTS (L, 0-1, 9.00) then screwed the pooch royally going 3 innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.  He fanned 4.  WADE (6.00) mopped up the last 2 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run, walking 0 and fanning 3.

HOFFMAN (.281) hit his 3rd homer.  HU(.257), hit his 12th double.  HU also was the only Isotope  with 2 hits.  HU keeps pulling himself ever closer to respectability despite his flickering eyeball.

Game 2:  The Isotopes win 6-5.

The Isotopes beat Nashville 6-5 in the night cap which went 7 innings.  ELBERT’S (5.74),  brief slump continued as he was only able to go 4.2 innings and gave up 4 earned runs on  5 hits and 6 walks while striking out 4.  Oh my!  My favorite pitching prospect seems to be going right down the old toilet of late!  BONILLA (4.78) pitched to one hitter and walked the SOB.  THREETS (W, 2-0, 1.67) got the last out of the 5th inning and was rewarded with the win. SCHLICTING (H, 4, 1.69), pitched an inning giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit and 1 walk.  STRICKLAND (S, 17, 3.58), struck out the side in the last inning giving up no runs, no hits, no walks in the process.

HOFFMAN (.293), hit his 4th tater.  REPKO (.261) hit his 12 2-bagger.

HOFFMAN and REPKO were the only Isotopes with 2 hit games.

THE CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS  AA

The Lookouts lost 7-6.

Andrew Lambo was 2-5 with his 27th double, as James Adkins gave up 5 hits and 3 ER over 4 innings.

The Lookouts were ahead 6-5 in the 9th and SARTOR blew the game and got the loss in the bottom of the 9th.

THE INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS       A    ADVANCED

Lancaster stomped our 66ers into dust 7-2.

WALL (5.37) gave the 66ers a quality start going 6 innings while surrendering 2 earned runs on 4 hits, 1 walks and 9 Ks.  It would have been a night for him to remember but for 2 solo shots hit by the Lancaster nine.  PFEIFFER (L, 2-3, 5.37), pitched like a dog getting just 1 out while surrendering 3 eared runs on 4 hits.  MCCARTER  (2.88), faired little better getting 5 outs while giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits.  PRADO (3.05), gave up one unearned run on 2 hits.

BAEZ (.287) hit his 10th home run.  HERRERA (.333) hit his 12th double and CASSERES hit his 16th 2-bagger.   Only ROBINSON (.298) , managed to get more than 1 hit  going 2-4.

THE GREAT LAKES LOONS          A

Fort Wayne, once again, made short work of our Loonies 6-2.

AGUASVIVA (L, 1-3, 0.36) took the loss despite pitching 5 strong innings, giving up 4 runs , only 1 of which was earned while scattering 8 hits, walking 0 and striking out 3.  BOOTHE (4.93), was ineffective in the 1 inning he worked giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 0 walks and 3 Ks.  PRATT (5.29), pitched 1 perfect inning and struck out 2.  ST. CLAIR pitched 1 perfect inning as well with 1 K.

RUSSELL (.281) hit his 19th homer.  BUSS (.261)  went 2-3; RUSSELL, went 2-4; HATCH (.271), also went 2-4.  The Loonies managed 2 runs on 10 hits.  PATHETIC!  They must be watching tape of the big club or getting lessons from Mattingly.
