THE PEOPLE’S CHOI-CE: RHP Hyang-Nam Choi has tossed 10.0 consecutive innings of scoreless relief over his last five appearances…the 38-year-old has struck out 33 in 22.2 innings in 11 appearances overall…Choi was signed as a minor league free agent on May 23, and spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons with the Korean Lotte Giants.
CARLOS CALL: RHP Carlos Alvarado is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/14.0 IP) in his last two starts…the Puerto Rico native ranks seventh in the Pacific Coast League with a 3.10 ERA (24 ER/69.2 IP) and ranks fourth in the league with 68 strikeouts…the 31-year-old spent the 2008 season with Triple-A Salt Lake (Angels), going 7-5 with a 4.27 ERA (62 ER/130.2 IP)…signed by the Dodgers as a minor league free agent on March 22.
LUNA LANDING: INF Hector Luna ranks fourth in the Pacific Coast League with a .353 batting average …the 29-year-old is batting .423 (22-for-52) with seven homers and 20 RBI against left-handers…Luna appeared in 15 Cactus League games for the Dodgers as a non-roster invitee, batting .204 (5-for-24) with a homer and four RBI.
BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY: LHP Scott Elbert was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga on Monday after striking out 47 over his last 29.0 innings (five starts) for the Lookouts…the 23-year-old still leads the Southern League with 87 strikeouts in 62.1 innings…he went 2-3 with a 3.90 ERA (27 ER/62.1 IP) in 12 games (11 starts) with Chattanooga, and tonight makes his first start with Albuquerque vs. Nashville (Brewers).

WILL YOU BE MY VALENTIN? – Manager John Valentin has been selected to be one of six coaches on the U.S. Team for the XM All-Stars Futures Game, which will be played July 12 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
AND THE TONY GOES TO – INF Tony Abreu was reinstated from the disabled list on Tuesday, and he is 4-for-9 (.444) with two RBI in two games since his return…the switch-hitting 24-year-old missed three weeks of action with tendinitis in his left wrist…Abreu is batting .305 with five RBI in 22 games overall.
THE GARATE KID – LHP Victor Garate has tossed scoreless relief in six straight outings (5.1 innings), lowering his ERA to 2.84 from 3.60…the 24-year-old, who is in his first year of Double-A ball, has tossed scoreless relief in 17 of his 22 appearances…the opposition is batting only .186 against him, including a .194 average (6-for-31) by left-handed hitters…he has struck out 28 in 25.1 innings, and has racked up three saves as well…Garate was selected by the Dodgers in the minor league phase of the 2007 Rule 5 Draft.

STAR 66ERS: CF Trayvon Robinson, RHP Tim Sexton, and LHP Alberto Bastardo were selected to represent Inland Empire in the California League All-Star’s 10-inning 2-1 triumph over the Carolina League All-Stars on Tuesday…here’s how they fared:
*Robinson batted leadoff and started in center field, going 0-for-4…the 21-year-old leads the California League at the All-Star break with 24 steals…the Crenshaw High School alum is batting .301 with nine homers in 69 games overall…he was selected by the Dodgers in the 10th round of the 2005 draft.
*Sexton struck out one in a scoreless seventh inning…he ranks fifth in the league with a 3.21 ERA (27 ER/75.2 IP)…overall, the Dodgers’ 25th-round selection from the 2007 draft is 2-8 despite a 3.21 ERA.
*Bastardo did not appear in the All-Star Game as he was promoted to Double-A Chattanooga on Tuesday…overall, the 25-year-old is 6-2 with a 3.84 ERA (32 ER/75.0 IP) in 14 starts.
ARCH STAR: 3B Pedro Baez has been selected to play for the World Team in the 2009 XM Futures Game on July 12 in St. Louis, the lone Dodgers prospect represented in the game…the 21-year-old hit safely in eight of his last nine games before the All-Star break, batting .400 (14-for-35) during that span…overall, the Dominican Republic native is hitting .293 (65-for-222) with nine homers and 44 RBI

CALLING ALL STARS – RF Kyle Russell, SS Dee Gordon, 2B Jaime Pedroza, C Tony Delmonico, RHP JonMichael Redding, RHP Javy Guerra, and RHP Josh Walter all represented Great Lakes at the Midwest League All-Star Game on Tuesday…they all played for the East squad, which defeated the West 6-3…here’s how they fared:
*Russell started in right field and went 0-for-5 with a strikeout…the University of Texas alum, who celebrates his 23rd birthday on Saturday, leads the league with 17 homers, 56 RBI, and a .577 slugging percentage…he is also tied for second in the league with 22 doubles, and is hitting .281 in 70 games overall… Russell was selected by the Dodgers in the third round of the 2008 draft.
*Gordon started at shortstop and went 1-for-2 with a run scored…the 21-year-old leads the league with 40 stolen bases…he also is tied for the league lead with 86 hits, while ranking second with 55 runs scored…Gordon, the Dodgers’ fourth-round pick in the 2008 draft, enters the season’s second half with an 11-game hitting streak, batting .458 (22-for-48) with 15 runs scored to raise his average to .308 from .277…he also has recorded seven straight multi-hit games.
*Pedroza started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI…the UC-Riverside alum leads the league with 56 runs scored, and he is tied for seventh in the league with 76 hits.
*Delmonico started at catcher and went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored…the 22-year-old was selected by the Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Florida State University.
*Redding worked 0.2 scoreless inning…the Dodgers’ fifth-round selection in 2008 ranks second in the league with nine wins…the 21-year-old is unbeaten in his last five starts, going 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA (8 ER/29.1 IP)…he is 9-2 with a 4.46 ERA in 14 starts overall.
*Guerra tossed 0.2 scoreless inning with a strikeout…the Dodgers’ fourth-round pick from 2004 ranks third in the league with 16 saves…the 23-year-old has 55 strikeouts in 41.0 innings, an average of 12.1 punchouts per nine innings…he is 3-1 with a 1.54 ERA in 28 appearances, and he has allowed only one run in his last 11.1 innings (seven games).
*Walter allowed two runs and three hits in 1.0 inning of work…the 24-year-old, who was signed as a non-drafted free agent in June 2008, is 4-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 19 games…he joined the Loons’s starting rotation on May 31, and is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA (4 ER/18.0 IP) in four starts…he has struck out 44 in 42.1 innings overall.
