Ogden Raptors

The Raptors started their short season last night and lost to Orem 7-3.    The Manager of the Raptors is Damon Berryhill, who is a 10-year Major League veteran.  Berryhill made his managerial debut last season with the Texas Rangers’ Class A Advanced affiliate in Bakersfield.

Joining Berryhill in the dugout will be hitting coach Henry Cruz, who makes his return to Ogden after a year away. He spent the previous two season as the hitting coach with Inland Empire. Cruz played parts of four Major League seasons with the Dodgers 19975-76 and White Sox (1977-78) and was a scout in the Cleveland system from 1996-2006.

Chuck Crim, a former Dodgers scout who  was responsible for scouting and signing outfielder Andrew Lambo, is making his debut as Ogden pitching coach this season, Ogden_Raptors-logo

He enjoyed an eight year Major League playing career with Milwaukee, California and the Chicago Cubs. He was 47-43 with 45 saves and a 3.83 ERA in 449 games and led the American League with 70 appearances in 1988 and 76 games in 1989.

Returning for a second year at  Ogden, is Kyle Orr, a fourth-round pick in 2006, who is not progressing as expected.   Left-handed power-hittung outfielder Angelo Songco is currently the highest pick of the ’09 Draft (fourth round) slated to play in Ogden this season.   Greg Wilborn, the Dodgers’ 18th-round selection will open with Ogden as well. Wilborn is still recovering from 2008 elbow surgery, but scouts remain encouraged about his velocity.

Other players of note are:

  • Chris Jacobs, a 6′ 5″ /260 lb. 1B
  • Pedro Guerrero, 6′ 3″ 181 lb. SS
  • Javier Solano, Gonzo’s buddy
The Arizona Dodgers, managed by Jeff Carter have played 3 games and are 2-1.  They play at Camelback Ranch.
The Santo Domingo Dodgers have played 21 games.
It’s hard to keep up with the rookie leagues.

    Michael,

Thanks for the well wishes, but no alcohol for over a month. Coumadim! Dang blood thinner to prevent clots – no beer!

  2. Michael says:

I live 10 minutes away from the Raptors park. Next time we have an off day and the Raptors are in town, I will go watch them to get my baseball fix. No beer for a month, talk about a weight loss program. I'll pick up the slack for you.

  3. DRomo says:

No Beer?!!? Ouch. I am sure you have some good meds (besides the blood thinners) to get you through.

  4. Mark_Timmons says:

    Romo,

I am not a big druggie. I have only been taking half a dose today. Yesterday, I was juiced on the morophine….

    Michael,

Anytime you see the Raptors, give us a a full report.
