TOM O-SHEA’S MINOR LEAGUE REPORT      06-20-09

THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES     AAA

The Isotopes beat Omaha 7-4.

Joe Torre announced to the Albuquerque press that Manny will be rehabbing beginning next week with the Isotopes instead of the Inland Empire team.

PINANGO (7.55) started and gave up 4 earned runs in 4 innings.  CHOI (W, 2-0, 2.29), got the win pitching 3 outstanding innings of 3 hit shut out ball, walking 1 and striking out 4.  loons-1THREATS (H, 8, 2.01), and STRICKLAND (S, 11, 4.35) each pitched a shut out inning allowing no runs, no hits and no walks. STRICLAND had 2 Ks in his inning of work!

3 Isotopes hit 4 doubles:  HOFFMAN (.259), his 4th, HU (.253) hit 2, his10th and 11th while BROWN (.302), hit his 15th.

Only HU had a multi-hit game going 2-4.  He must have gotten a second opinion and effective treatment on his fluttering eye as he’s raised his batting average 30 points in less than 30 days. ( Mark’s faith in HU is being vindicated!)

THE CHATTANOOGA LOOKOUTS     AA

The Lookouts nip Mississippi 5-4.

ADKINS (4.92) pitched 5.2 forgettable innings giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits and 5 walks.  GARATE (3..09) pitched to 1 batter and struck him out.  DURBIN (1.09) shut down Mississippi for 4.2 innings giving them 1 hit, n 0 runs, 4 walks and 6 Ks.  But it was SARTAR (W, 1-0, 2.82) who faced the last batter and got him to fly out who earned the win.

LAMBO (.267), hit his 6th home run in the 6th inning.  BELL (.281), smacked his 2nd triple and 17th double.

SELLERS (.282), and BELL both went 2-4.  The Lookouts managed 6 hits on the evening.

THE INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS   A  ADVANCED

The 66er got stomped by High Desert 15-2.  They could hit and couldn’t pitch.  Other than that, they played well.

The 66′ers got 4 hits while High Desert banged out 15.   Josh Wall was used like a batting practice pitcher and Greg Millers’ ERA  is now 7.94.

THE GREAT LAKES LOONS    A

The Loons win their 10th straight by edging Lansing 6-4!

NATHAN EOVALDI (4.38), (where do they get these pitchers with all the letters in their names?), pitched 5 strong innings allowing 1 run (earned on 5 its, 2 walks and 3 Ks..  MARTIN (4.58) and GARCIA (W, 4-1, 3.18) in the two innings pitched between them.  GARCIA did manage to close out 7th inning getting 2 outs and allowing just 1 walk.  GUERRA (S,16, 1.54),  slammed the door hard going the final 2 innings and giving up just 1 hit, no runs, no walks on 4Ks.  His 16 saves and miniscule ERA should have already earned him a promotion to Inland Empire.  If he’s not on the fast track someone isn’t paying attention.

BUSS (.276) hit his 6th tater in the 4th inning.  SILVERIO (.274) also homered, his 4th.

HATCH (.274) whacked his second triple of the season.

GORDON (.307) smacked his 8th two bagger in the 8th.

GORDON went 3-5.  PEDROZA (.282), and BUSS had two hits a piece.  BUSS added a walk to his totals for the evening.

All told, the Loons managed 12 hits off Lansings hurlers

I love that chop job on the 66er's game!. They couldn't hit or pitch but otherwise played like champions? Someone must have handed them an Isotopes roster with stats and they collectively realized how many .320 hitters become career minor leaguers. After seeing the stat book the decided to start plying their trade. Getting used to a lifetime of long bus rides, cheap hotels and Dodger dogs for dinner and lunch.

Life's a bitch when you've been in A ball for more than a few months.
