And unlike the last Dodgers-related person who famously uttered those two words, I don’t plan on being suspended for 50 games. Yes, it’s true, I have joined LADodgertalk.com, and I’m in it full-bore. Many of you are familiar with me from my work as the Dodgers beat writer for the Daily News and on the Daily News Dodgers blog.
First of all, let me say this: I never got the chance to say goodbye to my loyal readers after I was unceremoniously dumped by the increasingly cost-conscious Daily News on April 30. But I did read almost every comment that was posted, and the outpouring of support is something I will never forget. I knew that blog had a loyal following, but I never dreamed that so many people would be so supportive of me, and I want all of you to know how deeply I appreciated all the kinds words that were passed on to me through direct emails and through comments posted on not only that blog but several others around town.
In short, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all of you.
Let me also say this: that support that I have received from those readers was a big reason for my decision to take on this new challenge. I have long dreamed of being able to follow the Dodgers on a daily basis as strictly a blogger, without the burden of having to also write two or three stories a day for a printed newspaper. Thanks to Mark and Miguel, I am now going to have the chance to live that dream, and I hope to make this THE definitive Dodgers blog that fans will come to first.
Finally, let me tell you a little bit about my vision for this blog. My plan is to post 20 to 30 items a day. Some of those posts will be breaking news. Some will be daily updates. Some will be opinion. Some will be observances, casual and otherwise. Some will be anecdotal. Some will be descriptive scene-setting. Some will be more in-depth. Eventually, there probably will be more photos than you saw on my previous blog, and possibly some audio and video.
Basically, I want to take you, the reader, along with me through the course of each day at the ballpark, letting you see what I see, letting you hear what I hear.
It’s going to be a little while before this gets going full steam. My posts are going to be sporadic over these next few weeks, as I’m heading to Colorado next week to attend my daughter’s high-school graduation, then home to Arkansas for a few days. After that, I want to come back to my house in Phoenix and just chill for a couple of weeks before I return to Los Angeles and get back into the daily beat coverage, hopefully around the middle of June.
The most important part of this blog, like any blog, will be you. Check in often. Post your comments often. I need you. So many of you were there for me for the past few years with that other blog, and I’m hoping you will all make this transition with me, and bring a few of your friends along with you when you do.
I’m excited for this new chapter. Let’s make this a great blog, together.
