I believe that Ethier's troubles have been related to Manny's absence only in the sense that he seems to have been pressing and attempting to do too much, resulting in an approach at the plate that had him attempting to pull too much. After all, he was hitting behind Manny, not in front of him. The pitches he's seen during the slump aren't much different than those that preceded it. In the last few games he seems to be making a concerted effort to hit the ball where it's pitched, resulting in better at bats and better results. He still has a ways to go, but at least he appears headed in the right direction.

And Tony, I still get perverse pleasure from visiting that old blog. Was there only minutes ago, and the lheir last thread was posted on 5/25 regarding the 16-6 victory.

In the long run, I believe that Ethier will profit from what he's learned since Manny's absence. In fact, the same can probbly be said for the team that has been winning without him. Adversity has its advantages.

Ethier's troubles will last until/unless Ramirez comes back untroubled. ITMT, he should be platooned with Jamie Hoffman. It's really too bad the X-Man had to go on the DL at this golden opportunity in his career.
