Game Time – May 19th vs. New York Mets

Some people say that last night we were lucky (cough, Torre). And I really do not like wins like that either, they kind of feel cheap. But in reality, when you have a bad team they actually lose games like that. And we won. I’m reminded of a quote by an unknown source,

“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.”

And now we look forward…..

Tonight’s Lineup

  1. Pierre, LF
  2. Furcal, SS
  3. Hudson, 2B
  4. Ethier, RF
  5. Martin, C
  6. Loney, 1B
  7. Kemp, CF
  8. Blake, 3B
  9. Billingsley, P

It is important to note that the Dodgers play their 41st game of the seanson and have now passed the unofficial quarter point of the season. We have the best record in baseball at 27-13, which gives us a half game lead over the Blue Jays at 27-14 for that recognition. We beat a Mets team last night that is now tied with us for the best record in May at 12-5.

The Dodgers have won 10 of their 13 series so far and go for series win number 14 tonight!

Our ace Chad Billingsly (5-1 2.30 ERA) toes the rubber tonight at 10:10 ET against John Maine (3-2 4.24 ERA) taking the hill for the Mets. Both pitchers are coming off good games in which they both threw season high numbers of pitches. It will be interesting to see who lasts longer tonight. Let’s see if Maine sticks to his billingsley-stride“A” pitch the fastball tonight. Hopefully our boys will have done their homework and will see that he used it with great success in his last outing. We have some outstanding fastball hitters on this team.

The Mets are still trying to recover from the loss of Carlos Delgado, losing their last 2 and going 4-4 overall since losing him. Did I mention that Delgado’s replacement made the decisive error in last nights Mets loss? Star shortstop Jose Reyes has been sidelined as well.

Our Boys in Blue do not seem to understand that Kuroda, Kuo, and That Guy are all missing from the team because they are winning without them despite most analysts feeling that this team probably would not.

What is even more amazing is we are doing it without Andre Ethier too.I was trying to find a way to get Paul in the starting line-up tonight and at first I thought bench Kemp and we would have an all LHBing OF. Upon more thought since Matt can only hit fastballs and Andre is nada, sit Ethier. Always nice to see Bills on the hill. Can’t wait. Thanks, Miguel.

Agreed M. Ethier misses Manny more than anyone else. It’s time to give Ethier a liitle rest. I would love to see XP in the starting line-up again.

Far be it from to rag on Ethier, but he looks absolutely pathetic!

When you ain’t hitting, you’re aren’t going to get the calls Andre. I would PH for him next AB. He needs a DNP to clear his head. Doh, Torre!

Long live The Foundation!! Long live the beard!!

The unthinkable is happening–Casey Blake could be an All-Star this year! How many push-ups is that worth? ;-)

Seriously, check his stats–there's Zimmerman, then Wright, then Blake when one looks at the offensive numbers–and Wright gets the edge only on OBP and BA. How would Zimmerman and Wright do in the #8 slot?

  8. Brooklyn Dodger says:

It's possible that Ethier is pressing since the Manny suspension, and simply trying to do too much. However, let's keep in mind that Andre was hitting behind Manny, NOT in front of him. So I'm really not sure how Manny's absence has affected him, other than that he is pressing. Seems to me that he's trying to do too much, and rolling over balls that he would normally drive up the middle or the opposite way. Might be a good idea to move him out of the cleanup spot for the time being, and allow him to become more contact conscious lower in the order. Would like tro see Raffy get more contact conscious as well.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to start th X-Man in Ethier's place tomorrow. Doing so would give Andre a couple of days off, since there is no game on Thursday.
