I JUST FIGURED IT OUT…

hud1This was Ned and Frank’s Plan all along:

  1. Sign the O-Dog (losing the 17th pick in the draft);

  2. Sign Cruz; and

  3. Let Manny sign with the Giants (and get the 6th pick from the Giants in the process).

BRILLIANT!

Here’s the lineup:

  1. Furcal  SS

  2. Hudson  2B

  3. Martin  C

  4. Ethier  RF

  5. Kemp  CF

  6. Loney  1B

  7. DeWitt/Blake  3B

  8. Pierre  LF

You asked for it, you got the O-Dog.  But you don’t get Manny.  The Dodgers plan all along was to get the Giants #6 pick in the draft.  Bye-Bye Manny!  Enjoy SF.  Next time I tell you not to give up the 17th pick, maybe you’ll believe me!

Manny will sign for 3 years/$55 million with the Giants.

  2. Bill Russell says:

Mark you kill me. You just like to stir the pot. We sign Manny for 3 years $70 million and win the World Series. Just remember, life isn't always about draft picks.

  3. Mark Timmons says:

Dang Nab It, I Was Weebled. I had 'em going for a second.

Billy, you are wise to me, but it is fun!

  4. Mark Timmons says:

I hate giving up that #17 pick!

    OUCH!

    You better hit .470 O-Dog!

You know I'll be rooting for him.

  5. Mark Timmons says:

    Seriously,

Manny will have to take our 1 year/$25 mil offer and then Lambo will be there in 2010.

    Sweet!

  6. Mark Timmons says:

I do like Hudson for one year.

Abreu, DeWitt and Pierre (if we sign Manny) could yield a nice pitcher.

  7. Badger says:

If Hudson works out, he will cost a lot more for years 2-3, which is fine with me. I hope DeWitt and Abreu light it up this ST so we can move them both in deals for pitching.

The team is almost together. Just a couple more pieces and we will be one of the favorites in the N.L..

I love it when a plan starts coming together.

  8. ken says:

I like O-Dog. I love the contract. The FrankeNed 2 headed monster IS ALIVE and is learning how to negotiate in this market. Price disagreements require commpromise through incentive contracts. Time for BORASS to deal with reality.

The daily price of gas is up and down. Make the following Daily floating offer to Manny:

Price of a barrel of crude today = $38.94

    times 1 million

    = 2 year contract base.

    $38.94 / 2 = $19,970,000 Base contract plus incentives to a maximum of $25,000,000 per year.

    Lambo is 2 years away.

    Now Bring on Cruz.

  9. mario says:

    Please guys stop mentioning Lambo

It's been 20 years since we won a championship

Who the Fu.k is waiting 2 years for someone who may or may not be any good….

  10. Badger says:

I agree. Lambo schmambo. He is a AA ballplayer right now. He is two years away from being a rookie – unless he tears it up at AA this year. If he does, then when Ethier walks, we plug in Lambo.

I like that lineup, though believe it or not, Ethier has much fewer GIDP's. And I would kind of like to have Manny guaranteed an at bat in the first inning. But, I am good with O in the 2 hole and Manny hitting clean-up. I might think about flipping Blake and Martin. Martin has better speed and a better OBP. He gets on, gets bunted over or steals and is in scoring position with the top of the order coming up. Again, just a thought.

    Manny, 3 years. Do it.

  11. Mark Timmons says:

    B Russ has been annointed!

  12. iWasWeebled says:

The Giants’ 6th pick is protected, meaning that if they sign Manny we would get the 6th pick in the second round.

    Bummer.

I think we still sign Manny. I don’t like giving the pick to the D-Backs. Bad idea.

  13. Bill Russell says:

    Here’s my lineup

    Furcal SS
    Hudson 2B
    Ethier RF
    Ramirez LF
    Loney 1B
    Kemp CF
    Martin C
    Blake 3B

Who do you pitch around without DeWitt in the lineup?
    Billingsley
    Kuroda
    Wolf
    Kershaw
    McDonald

    Schmidt
    Broxton
    Wade
    Kuo

We just need Nomar coming off the bench….
    Peace

  14. Mark Timmons says:

If Schmidt can pitch, he will start. McDonald is in the pen.

    Manny ain’t comin’

  15. mario says:

Bill’s got that line-up right again
bat Ethier 3rd and Manny 4th, Ethier is gonna have a monster year..
We have the best team in the N.L. no doubt..

  16. Mark Timmons says:

    You have the audacity

    To doubt the veracity

of a man of my capacity?

  17. Mark Timmons says:

    Ken,

Lambo may be 1 year away!

  18. ken says:

    MT

He must combine ability and maturity first. I hope that you are correct but I currently believe 2 years is more probable.

Rats. Now we have to release Ardoin in order to sign Manny. What will FrankeNed do?

  19. Bill Russell says:

Lady’s and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce your 2009 World Champion L.A. Dodgers………
The only true L.A. professional baseball team.

Sign Manny and that could be a true statement.

This is a great day in Dodgerland….

  20. Bill Russell says:

    Anointed?

To smear or rub with oil or an oily substance.

    Did I win a massage?????
Wow this is my day……

  21. TrueBlue82 says:

I like Lambo, him and DeJesus are the future of the club. Who said Ethier is walking away?

  22. Blue Haze says:

    You lucky Dodger Dog, BRuss.

Manny signs with the Dodgers in the next 3 days.

Lakers on ESPN against the Hornets, 7:30PST

  23. Badger says:

True Blue – I did. Just a hunch. Somebody out there will pay him more than the McLoans will. It won’t be possible for us to keep everybody. If they all become as good as mover says they will, one by one the will get paid $20 million.

  24. lawdog says:

The Giants just announced that they don’t mind overpaying geezers in the twilight of their career. They are signing Manny for 4 years at 96 million dollars. “We paid the greatest left handed hitter into his 40s at that level of compensation, why can’t we do the same for the games greatest right handed hitter?”

To insure Manny’s performance for the next 4 years the Giants are adding clauses to his contract to make him take Xanex daily and he must obtain a script for ‘roids and use them until his contract expires.

The ManRam’s presence on the field will add at least 7500 butts to the stands for home games and he’ll definitely pay for himself in just the first two years of his deal. The last two years will be pure profit. The Dodgers were nutso to go after O-Dog instead. Cheapskates!

Manny’s presence in our lineup will guarantee us of finishing 2nd in the Western Division.”

  25. Mark Timmons says:

    Lawdog,

Put down the crack pipe and back away slowly!

  26. lawdog says:

For those o you who missed the salvos fired at SpookyBob by myself, here’s how it came down. I’d told the story about how Snider went to O’Malley after 1951 season and said he couldn’t take the pressure and requested a trade as he wasn’t going to be able to help the Dodgers.

Bobby piped up and said he was a lifetime Duke Snider fan and basically called me a liar. I responded by telling him what I really thought of him and copied the story about the Duke out of Wikpedia to further his education on his “favorite” player..

We haven’t heard from Bob since. My post got chopped up but you can see all of Bob’s post still in tact if you don’t mind going back through. about 150 posts.

    Have we signed Manny yet?

  27. Mark Timmons says:

    Trust me…

I had to edit Lawdog’s post.

I don’t even know the meaning of some of those words…

  28. Mark Timmons says:

    … but here’s the deal.

SpokeBob hit him with a flyswatter and

    Lawdog nuked him!

  29. Badger says:

Forget about it ldog. Bob may be upset right now. His team finished dead last every year for the last 8 years and can’t seem to face it’s over for them. They need a whole new squad and a new direction. Give him a break.

    Drive-by mover?

    Some interesting reading:

  30. mario says:

    Nobody cares Mark but you…

  31. SpokaneBob says:

Drive by Badger, but its ok with me. There have been plenty of shots on both sides over the last few years.

Mark, I am sorry that I went close “the line” and I will try to avoid doing so in the future. This is a great site for Dodger fans and I especially like your commentary. You may not always be right, but you are always entertaining. I do think the Dodgers will sign Manny and it should be a fun year for all of us.

    Ldog, (Content deleted)

  32. mark says:

    Mario,

Get back to me in 3 years about this.

    SpokeBob,

See you are starting it again in insinuating that I am not always right…

when you know that I am!

  33. GoNzO says:

Mover, the 17th pick is an even bigger crapshoot than the top ten picks. I don’t know if you read that the padres just DFA’ed the kid they took #1 overall about 4 years ago. So relax and live in the now.

  34. Slo Dawg says:

Or……..the 17th pick ends up being represented by Boras and we don’t sign him anyway!!

Manny my man…..where are you? We are all waiting on you….come out and play!

  35. lawdog says:

    Hey there Spookybarb,

Glad to see yer alive and well. Gettin’ hit with a virtual nuclear weapon, or any virtual WMD fer that matter can be painful.

It’s going to be hard to self-censor when we both have autographed Duke Snider baseball cards he also sent me an 8″ by 10″ glossy which he autographed as well.

Only problm is, the autograph on the card an d the autograph on the glossy don’t match the autograph which was printed by topps on the card itself..

Did you know Duke had bad knees which shortened his career?

He also went to federal Prison for a brief period of time for failing to report income from selling his autograph? His wife is named Beverly and he owned a rather large avocado ranch in Fallbrook which is where he planned to spend his retirement years.

It’s amazing how I can just rattle that all off, eh?

Okay Spokane, old boy. You made an allegation without any supporting documentation that Duke Snider had an ego problem as a mere lad. In fact, you inferred that because of this elevated self confidence, Duke would have been way too arrogant to go to O’Malley and ask for a trade because he wasn’t good enough to help our Dogs back in 51. Such an allegation would seem to harm the Duke’s reputation as a humble lad so I hope you can establish the truth in what you say. Otherwise it would appear to be libelous and as such, actionable.

Can you site verification for this alleged fact? Or have you been involved in some of that re-writing baseball history you were so quick to accuse me of doing the other day?

And Badger, SpookyBarb is a Dog fan. His problem with me is strictly political. And therefore personal.

  36. lawdog says:

Draft picks are just draft picks. Losing the 17th in the first round means little. This is not like the NFL. It’s more like the NBA who reduced it’s draft to 2 rounds because of lack of talent and lack of interest thereafter. Most of the stars come from all over the draft. A first round pick at the 17th spot is no “sure thing”

We have created a log jam at second base and third base. You have to wonder why Casey Blake was paid 16 million for 3 years when he’s about to turn 87 years old and has diminishing skills up the wazoo.

    Always liked that word. “Wazoo.”

Now we’ll have a young student 3rd baseman coming into his own who will have to platoon with Blake. This has Andruw Jones written all over it. Don’t expect DeWitt to play second. He was tried there and by his own admission, the experiment “didn’t go very well.”

It’s funny, I always thought second base was probably the easiest infield position to play except maybe 1st base.
