Camelback Ranch, Anyone?

camelback-seatingIt’s that time.  Somewhere around February 28th, I plan to fly to San Antonio where I will meet Roger and drive with him to Phoenix.  It may be too optimistic to make that game on Sunday, March 1st, but that’s my goal.  I would like to be there through Saturday, March 7th.  Roger has a couple of hotel rooms I think, or can steer you where to get a good deal.  Anyone up for being there March 1st through March 7th?   Single game tickets go on sale January 17th.  Make plans.  Let’s do it!

Who wants to meet there?

Suggestions?

I checked hotels in the area and the are pretty expensive any tips on hotels? I know when I go during the season to Arizona they are not that high.

  2. GoNzO says:

Whats the price on the tickets. I wouldn’t need a hotel since I live a couple hours away and would drive back the same day.

Bring “Da Bums” back to Dodgertown in Vero Beach – I am heartbroken !

    Gonzo,

Tix are about $30 for reserved box seating.

    Evan,

    Roger can answer that.

    Jim,

I feel your pain. I will really miss Lasordaville, ‘er Dodgertown. There will never be another place like it. However, “the Ranch” makes sense in so many ways, not the least of which is that it is just a short plane ride away, and the Dodgers will have full time staff there. This should help them have even better teams. Of course, they will also make more money in the process. After all, it’s still a business.

  5. Badger says:

Yep, it is about making money. And it would appear the McCourtz are good at having money, not so sure about making it yet. But do they really know L.A. and baseball?

This from a 2006 article in the Times:

“So I was a construction foreman on one of my dad’s projects when I was 18 and I’d come home filthy every night just looking for my dad to tell me I was doing a great job, and everyone had to wait for me to wash up because I was late for dinner and one night I sat down at the table and he was looking at me and I knew this was it and he was gonna tell me and we said grace and then he looks at me and says, ‘You should be ashamed of yourself,’ and I was crushed because I thought he’d say how proud he was I was working so hard but all he said was, ‘You don’t get it, you’re a foreman and you should go to the job in a white shirt and come home clean and not keep everyone waiting for dinner because you grabbed a shovel and jumped in a hole with laborers to show them how to dig dirt and while you’re in the hole you can’t see what’s going on on the site,’ and I was stunned while it began to sink in that it was important for me to get out of the hole to see the whole picture, which wasn’t really his only point because he said, ‘If they can’t do the job, get rid of ‘em!’”

It is a very interesting read, and they do come across as people who want to make the Dodgers right again. I just wonder, with his background, rich kid who never spent much time “in the hole” rather, while still of high school age he was made foreman standing on top of the hole looking down on everybody. Daddy’s boy running the crew of guys who actually had to work for a living. Does he have what is needed to compete with the big players in MLB?

I have a feeling we will be more moneyball players until the cable deal is ready to go through. Frankly, I am fine with that too as I have stated many times – we hired monyeball protoge Paul DePodesta to get quality young players in place before the cable deal was ready, and then after about 18 months panicked and changed course.

Maybe we are heading in the right direction. We could, with the right two players, compete for a title this year.

I am anxious to see what team is on the field there in Camelback Ranch. I’ll get down there for at least a couple of games.

Can I change the subject, sorry guys. I am getting aggrivated at this waiting game by the day. I read this morning that the Giants may have offered Manny a one year deal with 3 option years? Can we just offer 3 yrs $75 mil? The report I read also says we are interested in Brad Ausmus. I would love that. Aside from my prejudice against catchers that wear stupid hockey masks Ausmus is solid and could teach Russ some things.

OK Camel Back Ranch. It sounds like fun. I can’t commit yet but if there is any way I can swing it, with my schedule, I will be there. I think it is only around 4 hrs from here?

  7. Bill Russell says:

Dito with Romo, I can’t commit to which dates but I’m good for a few games and will probably drive down. I will make sure it’s the 1st week of March so I can meet a few guys from the site.

I am starting to get worried again by the things I’m reading in the paper today. Saito wanted to be a Dodger and would have stayed if the Dodgers would have showed interest. Nomar is talking to the Philly’s?? Park signed with the Philly’s, Lowe doesn’t want to return, Penny signed with the Red Sox and we are screwing around with the Manny situation. A three year guaranteed contract would get it done.

  8. mario says:

Saito said that? that’s too bad but I think Boston over paid for him, nobody knows how healthy he’s gonna be next year. Also looks like the Dodgers want nothing to do with guys that were hurt often, ( except for Furcal), i.e Penny, Saito, Nomar, Sheets.

I wish I could go to Camelback Ranch, maybe next year..thanks Mark

  9. Badger says:

That was an interesting read Bill. Not sure what to make of it, but, I still think Dunn is better than the so-called experts say he is. He just has to be in the right line-up. Not sure ours is that lineup – maybe. And, he is still Plan B, and evidently not just with us as nobody has stepped up with must sign deal for him. Manny is still Plan A and I have said all along, just pay the man.

  10. mario says:

My buddy goes to Arizona every other year for spring training games, he’s a Dodger fan but he goes to other clubs games cause supposedly the atmosphere is great. He says the games are o.k. but you play a little golf in the morning, go to a game in the afternoon, hit a bar in the evening, and the women there are un-real.

  11. Badger says:

The women everywhere are un-real. Makes me long for the 60′s, what you saw was what you got – the good the bad and the ugly. These days you can’t tell the players without a scorecard. And what’s with the pumped up swollen lips? Looks like they rubbed their mouths with poison ivy.

Off topic – you guys have GOT to read the “Exclusive! Bush Apologizes” in this month’s Rolling Stone. It is absolutely freakin’ hilarious!

  12. Roger says:

On hotel, I have a room at a nearby Hampton Inn. $116 plus taxes, etc. 2 guys to a room it is like $65 a night. Internet in the rooms, breakfast with the price, coffee all day, snack bags to take on the run. Not a bad price.

If any of you want me to see about adding rooms, I can do that, let me know.

Mark, call me, I have an idea about tickets priro to Jan 17.

    Roger Dodger

  13. Mark says:

    Roger,

    I’ll call tomorrow.
