Another Option – Ibanez

This I am sure of:   If we sign Furcal, we won’t keep Pierre, but if we don’t sign Furcal, then we just might keep Pierre.  I am pretty certain that Manny is just going to want too much and it will take too long to find out what he is doing, so if I were McCourt, I would make my best offer and give him 48 hours to take it or leave it, but know that at the end of 48 hours, it’s over!    It has to be on our terms, not Borasssssss’s!

A nice addition to our OF would be Raul Ibanez in LF.  He would’t be too expensive and has 100 RBI each of the past 4 years.  He’s LH too.  I think a 3-year deal could get him.

Maybe we just trade Pierre for Bill Hall.  Milwaukee needs a leadoff man and CF and their contracts are similar.  Neither player is happy where they are.   Then we keep Furcal and hope he can stay healthy.

Unless we keep Maddux, then we let Lowe walk.  Lowe can’t pitch as well without Maddux.

I say we challenge Jones contract.  I hear he says he doesn’t want to play in LA.  Cut him and sue him for breech of contract.  It’s about time someone takes on the Players Association.  I’ll bet some owners would chip in for legal fees.  He’s a quitter…

So, we just sign CC (6 years/$130 mil) and Blake to a 2 year/$18 mil deal.

This is the lineup:

  1. Furcal  SS (L/R)

  2. Ethier  RF (L)

  3. Martin  C (R)

  4. Loney  1B  (L)

  5. Kemp  CF  (R)

  6. Ibanez  LF  (L)

  7. Blake  3B  (R)

  8. DeWitt  2B  (L)

How do you like the L-R balance?  We would have to bank on Ethier, Kemp and Loney (and DeWitt) all developing more power, which seems likely with Maturity.  I think one might hit 30 and the rest 20-25.

Rotation:

  1. Sabbathia

  2. Billingsley

  3. Kuroda

  4. Kershaw

  5. McDonald/Schmidt

I do admit to yanking your chain with the Pierre bit yesterday, but this is all legit… and likely!

Why not Furcal and Pierre? I don’t understand that one. I would still like to see what those two could do over 162 games. 200 runs at the very top of the lineup sounds good to me. We might be able to move Pierre, but from what I have read, his contract is what teams will balk at.

When does Borassss ever lose in negotiations? The Manny contract will be on his terms not ours.

Challenge a MLB contract? That would be a first. Good luck with that.

Ibanez will be 37 next year but he still plays everyday. Not a bad choice really, he makes $5.5 now, if we could get him on a 3 year deal he might be ok. I say look into Dunn and let Mattingly turn him into a .270 hitter with a .500 OBP.

Here’s the FA list from right over there ———–>

Pat Burrell is on that list.

Looks like everyone wants CC. He is a Bay Area kid, maybe he wants to come west. Peavy is a southerner I think, though he has said he would come to L.A.. I believe he will end up in Atlanta.

Our young guys are one year better. Adding Manny made us a play-off team, which we weren’t before he got here. With that one year of experience, another starter, and one more stud bat, and I think we could do it again.

seem like every yr..we wait to the end of the tradeing yr..after every one is gone.. and then take who is left.. i hope we can do some thing early….

Ibanez??? Really??? That would be a good acquisition about 4 years ago. You all say Manny is a DH waiting to happen but Ibanez isn’t? Oh, wait HE ALREADY IS A DH. Talk about two steps forward and one back. Manny will sign a contract for three years if it is sweet enough. 3>75 mil. If you guys don’t know, the guy was responsible for about 10-15 million in merchandise sales/revenue for the Dodgers in only 2 months.

The most important move this offseason is to get rid of Ned. And please don’t give me the Manny and Blake trades as an example. Manny’s trade was orchestrated between the BoSox and Bucs. And while Blake was an above avg. acquisition, I still feel that we could have gotten him without including Santana.

What I do remember is the schmidt, jones, and pierre deals. And the trades for Lugo and that other RP that was supposed to be a closer and wasn’t. Ned has handcuffed this team with his signings. I also believe that if it were soley up to him he would’ve traded some of the youngins, but LoWhi has McCourts ear. Research Colletti’s career with the gnats and the trades and contracts he sabean gave out.

    recepie for succes:

    1A sign Manny 3>75
    1B Sign CC 6>125
    2 sign blake 3>33
    3 sign asmus 2>11
    4 sign lowe 3>40

  4. Gonzo says:

oh if we can’t sign Manny, give Dunn 5>90

  5. mark says:

    Gonzo,

Ibanez had 34 AB’s as a DH and 601 as a LeftFielder. He has 91 AB’s in the last 3 years as a DH, compared to Manny’s 107 AB’s this year as a DH. He kills RH pitchers and while not a great LF, he’s on par with Manny. He’d give us 450-500 AB’s.

If we could get Manny for 3 years/$75 million, I think the Dodgers would do it in a heartbeat, but Borass and Ramirez are leaning more towards 6 years/$150 million. A 3-year deal is great, but he’s looking at 5 or 6.

Ned could have gotten Blake without having to give up Santana, but McCourt insisted that the Indians had to pay ALL of Blake’s salary, so the only way Ned could get him without paying was to throw in Santana.

I think that Sabbathia will get what you wrote, but Lowe will get 50 to 60 million. Blake? 3 years. I wouldn’t go that much for a guy who is 37.

    Asmus would be nice.

I’d rather have Hall than Blake.

  6. Badger says:

I like Ibanez, always have. He kind of reminds me of Luis Gonzalez. Ibanez has played a lot of games the last few years, so he is either durable or due for an injury.

The longer this Manny thing goes on, the less likely we will get him. Nothing will happen soon though, he and Bora$ will milk this thing for months. Could be that McFrankie will want to do something early.

You really think Lowe will demand that much? Maybe. His agent is Bora$ and he was very consistent for us. I thought another 3 years at $39 mil might could get him, but I read recently he might get 15 per. Yoiks. These guys are really getting expensive. But if you look around, there are a lot of guys out there that are not being paid as much as we pay our guys. Look at the Phllies, Utley makes 7.7 mil, and Howard makes 10 mil, together they make less than what we offered Andruw Freakin’ Jones.

    We need a new GM.

  7. lawdog says:

I’d love to get rid of Jones as well, but if we cut him, we’d be in breach of the contract–not Judy. We’d have to pay him for the last year minus whatever he gets from someone else. Why not trade him to some Japanese team for a cup of sake and a bowl of steamed rice?

If we cut him and sued him–he’d cross-complain for breach of contract and seek punitive damages. Then when he beat us on the counterclaim he’d sue us for abuse of process (suing him when we had no basis to do so.)

By the time we’d be finished Judy Jones would own the Dogs, fire Torre, make himself player-manager and bat himself cleanup every night.

CC Sabathia is finishing up building a house in Malibu, and he wants to stay in the NL and come back to Cali. Do the math.

  9. Mark says:

If a regular person shows up to work, unbathed, dirty, smelly and hungover they could be fired with cause. Andruw Jones showed up for work as a professional athelete fat, ugly and lazy. He simply was not ready or available to play because he did not meet a minimum threshold of conditioning required of a professional athlete. Now, he wants a trade which shows his attitude is detrimental to the team. A fat, lazy, insolent CF has to breach some type of contractural agreement. Certain things are “understood” as being essential in certain fields. Jones is certainly in breech of the smell test!

  10. Mark says:

I have been told that CC is NOT building a home in CA!
