I Need A Hero

A hero is usually unexpected.  No one expected Kirk Gibson to be a hero.  They didn’t even expect him to play, but as he limped up to that plate, he was determined to fulfill that Destiny!  Somewhere on this Dodger team there is someone ready to take that mantle, step up and be a hero!  It’s not Manny - everyone expects it.  It’s someone that you wouldn’t expect.  Maybe it’s someone who we didn’t even expect to be there.  Maybe it’s Jeff Kent or Rafael Furcal, who were dead and buried.  Maybe it’s Matt Kemp who will realize his destiny in Chi-Town!  Maybe it D-Lowe and/or C-Bill who pitch like Koufax and Drysdale.

Maybe these are Destiny’s Dodgers!I borrowed the following from Bonnie Raitt and her song “I Need A Hero.”  I do admit to a “little” poetic license…

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?

Semi-Final Playoff Roster

From Tony Jackson:

PITCHERS
Beimel
Billingsley
Broxton
Kershaw
Kuroda
Park
Lowe
Saito
Troncoso
Maddux
Wade

CATCHERS
Danny Ardoin
Russell Martin

INFIELDERS
Angel Berroa
Casey Blake
Blake DeWitt
Rafael Furcal
Nomar Garciaparra
Jeff Kent
James Loney
Pablo Ozuna

OUTFIELDERS
Andre Ethier
Matt Kemp
Juan Pierre
Manny Ramirez

Scott Proctor lost out to Ramon Troncoso because Joe Torre needed a guy who would warm up, not come in, warm up again and then come in if necessary. Proctor, because of health issues he has had this year, isn’t able to do that right now. … Furcal is the starter at SS for now, unless he has more problems with his back or leg, and Berroa is the backup. But DeWitt will continue to start at 2B with Kent on the bench. … Juan Pierre is the only LH bat off the bench with Sweeney not making the roster, but Joe reiterated that Nomar and Kent are good enough hitters against right-handers that it shouldn’t matter. … All of this is subject to change for the second round if the Dodgers get there. - Tony Jackson

Playoff Roster

I think Jeff Kent and Rafael Furcal have earned spots on the playoff roster.  That eliminates Sweeney and Hu being able to make the grade.  Maddux has to be there and Kuo is “iffy” so I would just shut Kuo down.  Here’s my roster:

All-Time Los Angeles team voted on by fans and revealed during final home game

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have been celebrating their 50th anniversary all season long, unveiled the results of a season-long voting process on dodgers.com that yielded the fans’ choice for the All-Time L.A.
