According to Dylan Herenandez of the LA TIMES, Top pitching prospect Clayton Kershaw will be recalled from double-A
Jacksonville to start against the Colorado Rockies tonight and Manager Joe Torre said he expects the 20-year-old left-hander to remain in the majors for the rest of the season. Scoring 16 runs without a HR has to be some kind of record, isn’t it? We needed a “laugher” but it almost wasn’t as the Rockies scored 10 runs and out hit us 20-18! Let’s hope Clayton can establish his command early tonight. The ‘Backs are keeping pace. Coors isn’t kind to pitchers – let’s hope Clayton can handle it!
Rants & Raves
- Penny and Pierre will probably start rehab assignments this weekend. I think Pierre could be back before the end of the next week. Penny will probably need longer.
- Schmidt went back to the Doctor, who is considering an arm transplant (just kidding about the transplant part).
- Torre denies the Dodgers are showcasing LaRoche, but if we trade him, they better get somebody really good!
- HU was 2-3 for NLV last night.
- Santana was 2-5 with another RBI for IE!

Maybe Clayton is being showcased. I just simply don’t understand why he would be recalled to start at Coors when they wouldn’t send him to Vegas. Now he is in a game that has first place riding on it. Derek Lowe, a ground ball pitcher, can’t pitch at Coors and we want Clayton to without having mastered his third pitch or command. Go figure. Larry Bowa would trade Clayton for a big bat.
Something definitely is up for this to be happening. Why not use Johnson? Is Stults going? I hope he does as it seems he probably doesn’t have a future with the Dodgers. He is a workmanlike player and those rate highly in my book. Is Andy going? I hope so as he is just being yanked around. I want him to go somewhere where he gets to play. Is Delwyn going? I hope so. I also want him to get the opportunity to play. We play our old guys and let our kids waste away. The window of opportunity closes all too soon for players. Our four best hitters are Loney, Martin, Kemp and Ethier.
Maybe Loney should be traded to Colorado. He owns Coors.
GO DODGERS!!
Maybe the scouts have told Jed that Clayton, in the last 3 weeks, has thrown nothing but that third out pitch, and he now has it mastered. It is strange that Denver is where they decide to bring him up to stay.
LaRoche shows up on our A prospect list, along with Hu and Kershaw. I just don’t understand why he hasn’t been playing 3rd base as at the beginning of the year DeWitt was a Class C prospect. He should be at AAA and LaRoche should be starting every night. I don’t get it.
I spent some time yesterday perusing the different trade rumors and, nothing really going on according to the sites. Evidently Seattle is asking for multiple A prospects for Beltre, figuring they currently need offense to entertain, and Beltre offers an occasional run. Nothing noted anywhere about Ichiro being up for trade. Wilson trade rumors have cooled down, Dunn may be extended, and Guzman is being talked about again. If something is up, it’s going on behind closed doors.
Two odd games played by the West co-leaders. Here in Arizona a total of 4 hits and 2 runs. In Colorado, a slugfest.
8 days.
The Dodgers have scouts at the Oakland game. Street and Crosby are on the radar. Why is Streets ERA so high this year? I don’t know about this one. I’m hoping our scouts are just enjoying the game.
Me too. I would think that our pen, with a sub 3 ERA, could get the job done without adding Streets. Crosby? eh, maybe, if he doesn’t cost us that much. He is a SoCal guy, a .250 hitter with a career .300 OBP. Why him?
I find this interesting – teams with better records than ours are longer odds:

Your filter is at it again mover.
I don’t agree with anything you said Harold.
Delwyn isn’t ready. Trading Loney to a division team where he rakes? I hope that was a joke… and if it was, it was a bad one.
Clayton pitching in Coors is the same as him pitching anywhere. The kid needs turns, and this is one. Everyone has been saying he’s big league ready, so let him try to be. He hasn’t done poorly in any start, maybe the one against the Mets… but all of his starts are fine in my book. The guy has to realize how good big league hitters are (better than all of ours) and he can only learn to perfect his style, approach, and attitude through trying. Let him throw.
As for LaRoche… why is anyone sold on this kid? Because his big bro is a bust in Pitt? Because his daddy was a big-leaguer?
BIG DEAL. The guy has shown one thing, and that’s patience at the plate. While yes, I’d say that is a very good thing to possess at such a young age… it means nothing at this point.
He needs more PT, and that’s what Joe is (finally) giving him. Who cares if it’s a showcase… if it’ll get us a big name bat, SO BE IT!
We need a big name bat, not a bet on some kid who can rake in AAA. Maybe he will be a stud but in how many years? Trade him and I don’t mind. Kemp on the other hand… Clayton on the other hand…
these are guys you stick with no matter what.
About LaRoche – are you kidding Travis?
I have no problem with the other points, but LaRoche has raked minor league pitching, has shown up on everyone’s list of can’t miss prospects (one of our 3 A prospects at the beginning of the year) and has not been given an ample opportunity here. He only has spot starts since being called up. Is he what the scouts say he is? Who can know? We won’t know until he is given a job. And if that ain’t gonna happen here, then ship him someplace where he can play.

Crosby? Don’t we already have a couple of young SS who can hit .250 with a .300 OBP? As for Street, won’t our pen, with it’s sub 3 ERA, get it done without adding him?
Just reported on http://www.dodgerupdates.com that the dodgers are looking at the A’s Huston Street and SS Bobby Crosby
Travis you are right on about LaRoche, he may deserve a shot but he is not impressive. The guy is a hack in the field which has been the knock on him all along.
Badger you are making our point for us. The guy is a minor league star and we need a major league star. Those numbers mean nothing here. Here is an example of that..
http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=678
Trade LaRoche before his stock falls hard.
Travis – trading Loney wasn’t a joke. It was a bit of sarcasm. I just hate trade talk and we know Andy is being showcased. I thought it might draw more of a response than it did.
My point about Clayton is that they wouldn’t let him go to Vegas, protecting him from the launching pad there but will pitch him in Coors. What is the difference? At Vegas, no pressure to win, work on things, pitch to guys who are between AA and the majors. Clayton was unsuccesful in his first stint( ERA 4.42, 24 walks and 39 hits in 38 innings) so we bring him back to a MLB launching pad, have to win, have to have control and pitches in order and all big league hitters. I just find that totally puzzling.
You wrote: “…and he can only learn to perfect his style, approach, and attitude through trying.” I say trying at AAA or continue at AA where winning is not important. In any event I hope he knocks the Rockies on their butts tonight.
The bottom line for me Travis is that I don’t want kids traded but there comes a time. You are right – Andy hasn’t shown much with the Dodgers. I personally don’t think he got a good shot this year and with short and 3B in flux one of them has to be fixed. If it’s 3B the team has decided not to wait on Andy so he is being showcased. A tough assignment – sit on the bench for a long time then break out in a few games. I expect they are hoping he launches a couple at Coors. I do hope he is traded to a team on which he will play regularly.
As for Delwyn. He is ready. He is our best pinch hitter. That is harder to do than hit everyday. If he isn’t ready he never will be sitting on the bench. His play time in LA doesn’t look very good for the next few years. If Cody Ross can make a career in the bigs so can Delwyn. I also hope he winds up with a team that can use him on a more regular basis. We have Matt, Andre, Andruw, JP – no room for Delwyn, no options left.
GO DODGERS!!
Street and Crosby – ?? Street a 4.19 ERA – Brox can give us that. Crosby – a .242 lifetime MLB batting average.
Beane will want too much. This is a bandaid solution. Gives us little going forward and we will have to do it again in the not too distant future.
GO DODGERS!!
Neither Street nor Crosby strike me as what LA needs. Street blows a ton of saves, and Street has only played one full season in his previous five years (with a .239 BA).
I think Ned needs to assume that Saito’s run as closer is over, as unexpected and amazing as it was. Kansas City is still a while away from needing the ‘game over’ closer they have, but Joakim Soria would be just what LA needs.
I don’t know how you guys can conclude that LaRoche is just a waste of human flesh and toss him on the dung heap when Torre hasn’t given him a chance to play. The guy was lights out in the minors. He hasn’t even had a real cup of coffee with the big team. Torre’s kept his ass nailed to the bench since he got back from the DL until this series in Colorado.
How can you judge someone to be worthless when you haven’t seen what they can do because the manager is dumber than the proverbial bag of hammers and won’t put him in the lineup to see what he can do even when the guy playing ahead of him is fading faster than a six month old bouquet?
Yeah, the Street Crosby interest was what I was trying to post earlier and it got filtered out. I have to ask – why? The pen hasn’t been our problem and we already have .250 hitting .300 OBP SS here.
Romey, you missed my point. How can anyone know if a prospect can handle a ML job without actually giving him a ML job? You are ready to throw him under the bus after 140 ML at bats? Yoiks, you are tough man. LaRoche has not had steady work at this level and was injured early during his time here. I think he is ready now. If you would like me to reference ML stars who didn’t get a lot done in their first 140 at bats I most certainly will, but you will be reading stats for the rest of the day. I am just saying, give the kid a job, or trade him to someone who will. He has been ready for weeks as DeWitt has fallen off dramatically.
As for looking at minor league stats – can you name some Major League stars who came up WITHOUT impressive minor league numbers?
There was a column in the Seattle Times back when Bavasi was fired which was based on the sportswriter’s interview with the Mariner manager. It was reported therein that no one was”untouchable” and both Beltre and Icharo would likely be moved. Icharo because of advancing age (I think he’s 34) and his declining stats (horrors! I think he’s hitting .310 instead of .360.) The Mariners are looking to rebuild now and they want lots of good prospects to do the job.
We likely could get both of them along with Jahjima if we’re willing to pay the price. I’m not sure I’d want to let Kemp and DeWitt go along with McDonald, May, Johnson, Hu and other lower rated prospects. Even with Beltre and Icharo, we’d still be a small ball team. And Torre would still bat Punchless Judy 5th or 6th and kill virtually every rallhy we put together-small ball wise.
For Kewrshaw to be called up to pitch at Coors Field where his Koufax type 12-6 or 1-7 curve ball will be just rolling up to the plate like it’s falling off a tee with first place on the line is very strange to say the least. If Kershaw has to go with just his gas which ranges from 93-97 and tends to move back over the plate, up in the zone, he won’t last longer than Kip Wells did last night against our Dogs.
But he finally won a couple of games at AA and has what, 12 scoreless innings in a row now? Maybe he has finally mastered the arm speed problem he had with his change up. If the kid can throw that blur of a fastball, the monster curve, a real change and hnit the black with all three as well as locate up and down in the zone….
Well if he’s improved that much in a few short weeks it would explain the otherwise felony stupid move of bringing the kid up with first place at stake to pitch at Coors where his curve will get clobbered because the thin air will take the snap out of it and his fastball with it’s late movement back into the strike zone will be like batting practice fatballs for the Rockies’ sluggers.
So, the question is: Has Kershaw developed that third pitch and has he improved his command over his otherwise devastating fastball and curve? If he has, we’ll have an new Ace . If he’s the same pitcher he was when he was sent down, he’ll be crucified at Coors Field tonight.
Harold, I totally agree with your second post. It definitely makes sense to have C.K. throwing in Vegas… but being that the past is the past.. I’m okay with the call-up now. Not really sure what they were thinking with that. ??
As for LaRoche… I won’t go so far (and haven’t) as to say that he is trash… but I’m not sold in the least bit.
Correct, he has not been given a true shot and he DOES deserve that (and would have if he hadn’t been hurt by Game 1). So give him his shot… but honestly, if it’s a showcase… I’m cool with that.
Bring in some big names. Which brings me back to my original point a few weeks ago… if you’re gonna trade GO BIG OR GO HOME.
Huston Street and Bobby Crosby? Will Ng please strangle Colletti?
Someone loosen his tie?
BAND-AID.
NO, NED! YOU STUPID $*&%(^*%)&#*!!!!
Furthermore, I would take Ichiro, Beltre, and Johjima all day. If we could keep Kemp and Kershaw… no question. If we have to rid ourselves of one? Kemp. I just cried, just so you know.
lawdog – I don’t think LaRoche is a waste of any kind. I agree he didn’t get a shot and it doesn’t look like he will so therefore I would like him to be traded to a team on which he will get regular playing time. The waste is him sitting on the bench all the time while Blake was unable to hit big league pitching. Same as Delwyn sitting on the bench and Andruw can’t hit big league pitching.
GO DODGERS!!
I dare say that I have watched Andy LaRoche play over 75 games and if you say you are not impressed, it is only because you have never seen him like I have seen him. To say he’s bad with the glove flies in the face of the facts. His brother and dad have nothing to do with how he plays. He just needs to play.
He has more opposite field power than any Dodger I have seen since Mike Piazza and while not a Gold Glove is a better 3B than DeWitt with a much better arm! Why Joe hasn’t played him is a mystery to me!
Badger,
For some reason, a couple of your posts were marked as spam. I “freed” them.
Sorry!
Mark, Well where ever LaRoche gets traded you are free to continue to watch him there.
Your other point is that his defense is better than DeWitts? I dont think that is a good arguement for you, last night andy looked sluggish.
Anyway “facts is facts” as they say and sometimes life isn’t fair.Andy is going to be dealt my opinion is we trade him and Hu for Beltre.
I was never big on Beltre, in fact I wasn’t much of a fan at all, but he is maybe the best defensive 3b we have ever had. He has always had pop and I think it alows us to see DeJesus Jr. next year.
Pierre
Kemp
Ethier
Martin
Loney
Beltre
Kent
Nomar
pitchers spot
not too shabby
By the way: the San Diego fire sale has begun, Randy Wolf was just dealt to the Houston Astros. Weird for a 5th place team 12 games out to pick up a guy who walks away at the end of the year. I bet they trade him again before the end of the month!
If all you did was sit, you might look sluggish too.
I would trade Hu and LaRoche for Beltre, even though I like Andy, but I don’t think Seattle would do it and neither would McCourt. Besides, Seattle doesn’t need a SS!
No problemo mark, the point got made.
“GO BIG OR GO HOME.”
I like that. And I agree, but to go big we must be willing to offer big. The only bigs we got are the ones carrying this club – and Kershaw. Jed don’t have the stones to do anything big with Kemp, Loney, or Ethier. Kershaw and Martin are off the table as far as I am concerned. If any of those guys go, we create a huge hole, and no sense creating a hole just to fill another one. We need to get it done with LaRoche, DeWitt, Young, Elbert, Abreu, Meloan, MacDonald, Hu, and maybe some lower players like Withrow, May, Bell – who am I missing mover?
I wonder if Torre just already has his favorites here. It would make sense. Maybe he sees something in LaRoche he doesn’t like and something in DeWitt he does. It made sense as long as DeWitt was doing well, but, he has been struggling for some time now. LaRoche should have been put in the lineup a month ago.
The more I think about Beltre, the more I am ok with it. That park in Seattle isn’t a hitters park so, maybe coming home would be good for him. He is certainly more productive than what we have now. The problem is, Seattle wants three A prospects in return. In fact, Seattle is playing hardball with all those guys. I figured Beltre would be a salary dump, but I figured wrong.
Why do I not read any opinions on the zero playing center field? He has retired…, and with a smirk on his face on top of it. Let him ride the pines and take extreme batting practice with all curves and sliders. He’s terrible.
stutzdude – what is there to say? It is worse than our wildest nightmares. I know Joe and Ned are waiting for Andruw to catch fire with his bat but he hits like the seat of his pants is on fire. I simply cannot see how a man that young just can’t hit anymore. Was it steroids in his power days? If it is not his shoulder or arm, what is it? At some point, probably when JP gets back, Andruw simply has to sit, be sent home, demoted, bought out. Can you imagine how valuable that #18M would be now that we are after a big bat? The other significant point is that Delwyn, who is a far superior hitter to Andruw, sits. It is impossible to calculate the negative impact this has had on the team. But who knew. I must admit I was OK with a two year deal with Andruw to prove himself although I was stunned by $18M. What can we say?
My last comment was not meant to be derogitory to all you guys who obviously love the Dodgers. I do also.
I just have to vent over my frustration with Jones’ play in the field and espesially at bat. I remember when Bobby Cox had to pull him off the field for not hustling. I worry that his price tag has bought him playing time he doesn’t deserve at this point in the season.
I enjoy your Dodger Talk. Peace!
stutzdude – certainly no offense taken. I expect there is just so much more to talk about than Andruw. So many good things happen that are more fun to write about. Trades also create a lot of conversation as we all have differing opinions. I wonder if Ned sleeps at all at night.
GO DODGERS!!
‘dude – notta to worry. Feelings in here aren’t going to be hurt – as we all got some thick skin from following Dodgers for so long.
And we all agree with your take. No one in here has said “He ain’t through – PLAY DRUW!! (yeah, I know, that was weak) All of us have been talking about benching his sorry ass – I said from day 1 that his signing was suspect – not really the signing part but the money. $36 million for two years is criminally insane and Jed should deserves to be quarantined for that move. I was willing to give him a chance but, not for that kind of dough. We outbid ourselves on that contract.
And now we wait.
The Dbacks got end-of-game improvement today by getting Rauch. He is better than Lyon.
Stults is going to AAA (presumably to make room for Kershaw). Also, Pierre is going to AAA with him to start rehab.
Sending Stults out was not the move I expected–I thought it would be Troncoso. I wonder how much last night’s struggles played into this? Stults has pitched pretty well overall, and he isn’t the first pitcher to struggle with a big lead, much less in Coors Field.
Something is fishy, as this leaves LA with only four starters: Bills, Lowe, Kuroda, and Kershaw. Park and Johnson have recently moved to the pen; does one of them (or Kuo, a longshot) go back to starting? Penny is supposed to get two rehab starts and won’t be back until August, so that would seem to rule him out as the fifth starter for now. Is Ned about to get another starter, and if so, what eventually becomes of Penny? Closer?
Guzman signed a two-year deal with the Nats, who also dealt Jon Rauch to the D’backs.
Justin Duchscherer is available from the A’s but a trade for a pitcher seems unlikely as we have to address the 3B/SS situation. We don’t have that much trade equity to make too many deals.Rauch a steal for the D’Backs.
GO DODGERS!!
How about AJ Burnett and Scuturo from the Jays? Dodgers scouting the Jays and Jays looking at Great Lakes Class A Dodger team.
Yikes. I don’t like that the DBacks got Rauch, even though I don’t fear him greatly. I still wonder why they ditched Valverde.
As for us… we’re not gonna make a big move. Ned will do something really stupid (again) and make a patch move and most likely give up a player that most of us will be upset about.
He’s a monkey and needs to go.
Back to the LaRoche thing: Maybe Joe does see something he doesn’t like… but Grady Little saw it too. We were all complaining last year that LaRoche didn’t get enough of a chance. His PT last year was next to nothing… as I expect this year’s to be as well.
I wish we had some better insider information. We need a legit Dodgers beat reporter who doesn’t work for the LA Times.
What IS Joe thinking, who is Ned on the phone with, what is he talking about? Who is untouchable?
Unfortunately, we get together and run our mouths about deals and come up with all kinds of half-cocked and fully-cocked ideas… about players that may or may not be on the market. It’s frustrating seeing no action…
or our names come up in talks about garbage players who are only band-aids!
Go get Holliday, go get Dunn, Ichiro, Jason Bay.
And yes, stutz… Andruw sucks… and I just can’t seem to understand it. Worst signing ever. Kill Ned Now.
I hear A.J. is a terrible clubhouse guy, and a bad teammate.
To me, that’s “hands off” kind of hearsay. I don’t like that kind of stuff.. especially when we have guys like Jeff Kent already in our house.
Rosenthal says that the Phillies inquired about Holliday, Nady, and Matt Kemp. Hmmm… Jimmy Rollins and I’m down.
Dodgers really like Huston Street. Let’s rephrase: Idiot GM, Ned Colletti really likes Huston Street.
Billy Beane will rape Colletti by the way. Be prepared to say goodbye to one or two prospects that you won’t be happy about. (Included in prospects: Kemp, Ethier)
Burnett is flakey. He has a clause to opt out of his contract at the end of the season with the Jays. He makes about $15M a year. You are right Travis – hands off. As of now no teams have inquired about Burnett.
I read the Dodger interest in Street and Crosby is mild, especially on Street who has health issues. “Street is not at peak value right now, with eight hits and four runs allowed in his last three appearances. His average fastball velocity is down to 89.7 mph this year from 90.4 last year. Strikeouts are down, walks and home runs are up. He’s dealt with a groin strain this season and ulnar nerve irritation last year. Street is under team control through 2010.” Not a good option.
Also read this: “The Dodgers are currently scouting the A’s, though interest in closer Huston Street and shortstop Bobby Crosby appears lukewarm at this time.”
Also read this which surprises me regarding beltre: “With the non-waiver trade deadline 10 days away, General Manager Ned Colletti said the Dodgers could enter the market for a third baseman if they’re unable to land a shortstop. The Dodgers don’t appear to be interested in Oakland shortstop Bobby Crosby or Seattle third baseman Adrian Beltre.” (Los Angeles Times)
Huston Street has a 4.00+ ERA and a rumored groin strain. Why would Ned/Jed consider this guy? Now that Guzman is out of the picture, Ned had better at least go get Beltre. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the Twins have worked out a deal and Beltre is heading straight east to Minny. I’m not a big fan of Casey Blake. He’s a senior citizen in baseball and I can’t see wasting any prospects on him. It will interesting to see how Ned trys to save his bacon. It will also be interesting to see Andruw stops eating all the bacon. With Pierre heading to Vegas for rehab, Torre better not even think of seating Kemp or Ethier with Pierre returns next week. If the thought even enters his mind, he should be shot on the spot.
My suggestion to A Jones is to give 12 million back to the club this year and cancel his contract for next year. Man Up Andruw. Lose some weight and set a few goals.
1. Raise average to over .200
2. Hit more then 2-3 homeruns the second half.
3. Catch the balls hit to center field.
Three should be good for now we don’t want to over load him.
Tonight’s lineup:
Kemp, RF
Ethier, LF
Martin, C
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Nomar, SS
Jones, CF
LaRoche, 3B
Kershaw, P
If Jones just disappeared, we wouldn’t have to pay him….
Hummm, Guido!
Where is Don Corleone when we need him?
Little known fact:
The Dodgers are 11 games under .500 this year when anyone not named Jones starts in CF.
The Dodgers are 10 games over .500 when Jones starts in CF!
What a DP by Kent and Nomar!
“The Dodgers are 10 games over .500 when Jones starts in CF!”
That sentence is logically fallacious and oxymoronic.
oxy – in this case, an overweight water buffalo
moronic – Ned Dulletti
We can do this with 4 starters. None of them go more than 4 innings per start, none of them get the win so we save money on their next contracts and besides, our bullpen is our strength.
Uh, nice start kid.
Just a fact.
It is what it is!
Kershaw is not ready, We need to look for pitching help. Let the kd develop instead of struggle while we are clinging to a chance in this division.
Why call him up to pitch in Colorado? Someday he will have to but he is obviously overmatched at this level at this stage of his career. Maybe we should have inquired about Randy Wolf.
Welcome to Coors, Clayton.
No, not the beeer – you aren’t old enough!
Coors Field – The Death of Pitchers!
Harold is right…
something is brewing.
Something Big!
I am all for Clayton bing in the Majors. I just would have him work out of the pen the rest of this year.
It’s stupid to start him.
Felony Stupid…
unless hee’s part of a trade….
As much as I hate to admit it, Clayton is simply overmatched at the MLB level because he can’t locate his pitches. 72 pitches 42 balls. Mark, if he can’t throw strikes, he can’t relieve because of less warm up time. Plus, he can’t develop his pitches in short stints. He shouldn’t be around for mop up work. Starting him at Coors just wasn’t a good idea. Why not Johnson? I really hope he doesn’t have to be returned to the minors again. This whole experience certainly doesn’t do much for his confidence. Coors, or no Coors, you have to throw strikes and Clayton didn’t in his first stint. I just am concerned about Clayton’s and our future.
Why was Stults yanked from the game last night when he was doing better than Clayton? Something doesn’t add up. And, is Clayton being shopped? If so, his value went down tonight.
TJ Simers is probably right. He said the over/under for number of runs the Rockies would score in these two games was 16 and he took over on the basis Stults and Johnson would be pitching.
GO DODGERS!!
Yikes.. Kershaw.
I’ll shut up now.
We arrived in Silver City, NM, the birth place of Billy the Kid . . .
Just looked in, Kershaw, 10 hits and 3 walks.
Another example of not following my instructions: Pitch a 1-hitter, 2-hitter, or 3-hitter and you might win the game.
Interesting, the Rockies pitcher listened to my instructions . . .
I think the Dodgers went with DeWitt far toooooo long. He had a great beginning and won some games. But for well over a month, has been terrible as a hitter, producting nothing. He does have a nice glove.
Just play LaRoche.
Let us see just what Joe does when Pierre comes back. Who sits the most? Will Joe have the guts to sit Jones, or does his price tag make it that Jones plays because he is $$$ in the bank?
Broxton. You know. Sometimes a player comes into their own when given a special change. I believe that Broxton might rise to the occasian.
Agree with the above, in Ethier, Kemp, LaRoche go in some trade — the Dodgers better receive a solid player.
I would just release Jones and call it a day.
On the other hand, he might 3 HRs tomorrow.
I just noticed, Stephen Drew has more home runs than Matt Kemp. I thought that was interesting.
I got nothin’ else.
The Rockies are only 6 games in back of the Dodgers.
They are hitting the ball, look at the last 2 games.
Hummmmmmmm
Jones isn’t going to come around and start to hit again. When your bat is so slow yhou have to guess what the pitch is and where it will cross the plate just as it leaves the pitchers hand, your going top strike out 9 times out of 10. It’s a miraqcle when he hits a slow roller back to the pitcher or foul tips the ball. Let me put it this way:
Jones’ bat is so slow he might as well close his eyes when the pitcher releases the ball and swing blind! I remember in little league some kids did that and they hit about as well as Punchless Judy. You can’t hit doodly-squat when your bat is that slow!
If he hits 3 home runs in one night you’ll know he’s hired a double to come out and masquerade as his pear shaped self!
Who was the idiot who decided it would be a good experience for Kershaw to comeback without having developed his change up and still unable to command his fastball and curve at Coors Field no less???
I can’t believe this kind of lunacy. It’s worse than felony stupid. Do we have anybody involveed in the managing of this club that isn’t a low grade moron?
This is bad, bad craziness!!!
DEWITT IS TWICE A GOOD AS LAROCHE WITH THE GLOVE AND WHO EVER SAID HE HAS A STRONGER ARM…MYBE ,BUT HE IS WILD..HE THREW ONE AWAY TONIGHT.PLUS HE DIDNT DO NOTHING LAST YR..TRADE HIM
Make an error, trade the guy. That will teach him. One bad thow makes you “wild?” He did have .365 OB% last year, and that’s doing nothing? So since LaRoche has a career ML OB% of .339 and DeWitt has an OB% of .321, DeWitt is doing Less Than Nothing! LaRoche did something you haven’t seen out of DeWitt for a couple of months: He got on base. He got on 2 out of 3 times.
Rockies, 50 hits in 3 games. Maybe the air is thinner in the bottom of the inning.
