We have had more than our share of injuries and now we have another. A few hours after Joe Torre annointed Juan Pierre as our everyday LF once Andruw Jones returned, Juan was writhing in agony at 2B after Erik Aybar fell on Pierre’s knee. Juan Pierre has never been on the DL and never admits to an injury, so when he left the game I knew it was a sprained knee (best case) or torn ligaments (worst case). We’ll find out after the MRI today, but if I were the Dodgers I’d DL him right now and recall Jason Repko to play LF Monday in Houston.
Matt Kemp manufactured the run. You can’t teach that kind of speed and the ability he has to slide and bounce back up in full stride (I have never seen a man that big do it like that). Even though Weaver didn’t allow a hit, Chad Billingsley was again dominant throughout his 7 innings - he pitched like our ACE! Of course, Andre Ethier was the one who saved the game, not once, but twice: once with the catch of Howie Kendrick’s double in the alley (I still can’t see how he caught that) and then throwing out Aybar at 2B. Winning 1-0 without a hit (technically it was not a no-hitter, since the Angels only pitched 8 innings), is an amazing feat and proof that the Big Dodger in the Sky is again smiling upon us.
I am now willing to admit that there is a slight chance THEY know what THEY are doing! Well, after last night, it’s more than slight. From the first inning on I sensed a difference in this team. I can’t put my finger on it, but the team seemed different and was different. From Martin’s 427 Foot HR, Kemp’s speed, Kent’s clutch sacrifice fly, Loney’s hit up the middle; Kent’s diving catch and throw; Chan Ho Park’s dominant performance; to Andre Ethier’s Blast, which was not “soft” in any fashion - this was the best win I have seen this year!
