Since outfielders are generally regarded as offensive players, I have been thinking about what we could do to have our outfield only manned with .300 hitters and I finally have it figured out. Here’s the Lineup:
RF - .308 is what Andre Ethier is hitting
LF - .333 is what Chin-lung Hu is hitting and therefore, he should play LF (I know he’s never played there, but he’s a good athlete and can handle it)
CF - .358 is what our Centerfielders will be hitting. Of course, I have to check with the Commisioners’s Office to see if it’s OK for Pierre, Jones and Kemp to ALL play there (their COMBINED batting averages add up to .358 - Pretty Good, Huh? Not many CF’s hit that well - we really have it gone on, don’t we?)
Did our outfielders get the memo? Spring Training is over.
- Pierre: Quit feeling sorry for yourself;
- Kemp: Quit reading your press clippings and just play;
- Jones: Put down the cheeseburgers and back away slowly!
Dylan Hernandez of the LA TIMES has this to write about Kemp:
(Mike) Easler, who says he knows Kemp “like the back of my hand,” declared that this rough patch would benefit him in the long run.“He’s going to be a superstar,” Easler said. “He’s destined for greatness. But every hitter, these kids here, the Uptons, the Youngs, the Howards, they’ve gone through what Matt’s going through.”
Kent is still a factor - He looks like he comes to play every day. Our bullpen evidently read what I wrote about them yesterday … and believed it! Quit reading and pitch! Like Eric Karros, used to say:
“IT’S STILL EARLY!”
But, it would be good if we started getting it together…
DODGER NOTES:
- From all indications Nomar will be readu for a rehab assignment by the weekend. He has been running and doing all the conditioning drills, so he should need less than a week in the minors. It’s just in time, as DeWitt is starting to look overmatched as other teams now have film on him and are exploiting his “greenness.”
- Eric Hull was traded to Boston for a bag of beans (PTBNL)
- We are hitting .232 with RISP - that simply won’t work!
