How Great Was This?

I would have given my right… well never mind, to be in LA on Opening Day and witnessed all the former Dodgers there to take part in the celebration. Two Hall-Of-Fame Managers, Joe Torre and Tommy Lasorda caught ceremonial first pitches from legendary ex-Dodgers Sandy Koufax and Don Newcombe. And then there were Carl Erskine, Wally Moon, Maury Wills, Jim Gentile, Dick Gray, Ron Cey, Sweet Lou Johnson, along with Duke Snider, Roger Craig, Bill Russell, Steve Sax and Fernando Valenzuela. Dr. Charles Steinberg at work! McCourt is a genius!
Why Are We Considering Picking Up a 3B?
I went on record that I was not in favor of keeping Blake DeWitt on the Major League Roster, but now that we have him, why are we looking for another 3B? Allegedly, we were ready to sign Marcus Freakin’Giles to play 3B until he got a brain cell and turned his ride around on the way to Vegas to play 3B. Thank the Lord! Why do we need another 3B when we have 3 on the DL and a 4th player (Who?Hu!) could play there? Ned, take a dose of Dumbass Vaccine and back away slowly! Don’t sign anyone who has ever played 3B (unless you can get Adrian Beltre back for me).
DeWitt looks like he’s a pro - I saw that in Vero. He can field and he’s just a “player.” Nomar or Abreu should be back in a couple of weeks. Surely we can make it with DeWitt or Hu… or Chavez!
TONIGHT’S GAME:
Tony Jackson reports that Juan Pierre is in the starting lineup tonight and Matt Kemp is on the bench - Joe is blantantly playing them against each other to get superior results. Smart…though I hate to see Kemp sit!
The Dodgers think Andre Ethier can hit 25-30 HR (he had 6 in Spring Training), so why is he hitting in the #2 spot. If you want a contact hitter who can hit behind the runner, put Pierre there. Otherwise, Ethier belongs at #5 or #6. Joe has him at #3 tonight and Martin back at #2 (where he belongs).
Tonight’s Lineup:
- Furcal, SS
- Martin, C
- Ethier, RF
- Kent, 2B
- Jones, CF
- Loney, 1B
- Pierre, LF
- DeWitt, 3B
- Lowe, P
