03-28-08 – I Wasn’t Wrong!

Tony Jackson admitted that he was wrong in his blog yesterday.  Wrong about Juan Pierre.  He was stumping for Juan Pierre to be the starter in LF.  I also did the same until about two weeks ago, BUT I WASN’ T WRONG!  Here’s why:  The Andre Ethier of 2006 and 2007 was not a better option in LF for us, but in 2008, the new and improved Andre Ethier is bigger, stronger and smarter and poised for a breakout year.  He clearly seized the day and took the job.  That, and Juan Pierre plain choked and even though he is a lightweight, he isn’t even hitting his weight!

So, I wasn’t wrong – the new Ethier beats the lousy Juan Pierre.  I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken…

Pierre has been given every chance this Spring to prove he belongs in the lineup and has not risen to the occasion.

But then an argument could be made that he is a seasoned pro and doesn’t need to impress in ST, he just needs to get in shape. Take a look at what Andruw Jones has done so far. The man looks like a middle aged security guard, not a starting center fielder, yet his name will be in the lineup on Opening Day.

Juan Pierre has done pretty much the same thing every year since he has been in the Majors. His OBP has gone down some, but he still hits over .290, steals 60, and scores 100. No reason to believe he won’t do the same thing again this year.

Having said that, some team out there must need those numbers.

Andre Ethier has earned the starting job.

Now the question is, Hu plays 3rd base?

    Who? Hu!

Looks like it might be DeWitt AND Hu.
