02-06-08 - Team Report
1. Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports that Matt Kemp has lost 20 pounds and now weighs in at 220. Kemp says “I feel quicker, I feel way stronger.” That could be very good news! Hernandez also reported that Catcher Russell Martin also spent time working out in Arizona. Though Martin appeared broader-shouldered on Tuesday than he did in the fall, he said he lost weight, something he credited to reducing his body fat percentage from close to 10% to 9%. “I feel more explosive,” Martin said. Again, very good news that our players want to get even better. I’d like to hear the same thing about Andre Ethier.
2. It looks like the Dodgers are still trying to get a vetern lefthanded bat for the bench. Several sources say they are talking to Mark Sweeney and Tony Clark. My 2 cents is that I’d take Clark for the fact that he’s a switchhitter and a very good clubhouse presence.
3. Raffy Furcal has had no problems in the Dominican and appears ready for his “career year.”
4. Jason Schmidt and Scott Elbert are both throwing pain-free.
