A-Rod Coming to LA?

Multiple sources, including ESPN  have just reported that A-Rod is opting out of his contract.   If so, the Yanks have steadfastly maintained that they will not have him back.  I can see only 4 or 5 teams who could bid on him -  the Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, Angels and Giants.  I could see the Red Sox signing him and playing him at SS or not signing Lowell and playing A-Rod at 3B.  If A-Rod signs with the Red Sox, Lowell could end up with the Yanks or Dodgers, however I think A-Rod and the Dodgers are a

Girardi Reported to be Yanks New Manager

Both Buster Olney and the New York News report Joe Girardi will be named the Yankees manager as early as Tuesday.  Remember, I have always maintained that Joe would become their manager.

Does this pave the way for Don Mattingly to come to LA?

10-29-07 - We Can’t Afford to Stand Still

We all know that we have a good core of young players, but according to Bill James, it may not be as good as we think.   He ranks our young players 20th in MLB in his latest book.  If that is accurate, we will need additional help in the middle-of-the-order.  In Colorado, they are building an offensive jauggernaut (last 3 games aside).  They have some good young offensive players who also happen to be excellent defensively.  The Rockies will have Ian Stewart ready next year and I believe they will try and trade Atkins or Brad Hawpe for more pitching.  Stewart can also play RF, so he would fill in for Atkins or Hawpe if either one is traded.  I realize that it’s problematic to trade within the division, but I would love to have Brad Hawpe in our OF.  He’s LH and would
